The night seemed to take the phrase 'rain on my parade' to a whole new level for Alcina Bianchi. She cursed and muttered as she ran through the torrents, using her hand as a shield for her eyes. Having aced a test at school and offered a raise at work, her parade float was fresh and new, until the rain. Just a few minutes past 9 pm and Alcina could only hope that her stepmother hadn't locked her out.

As if mocking her, the torrent turned to a drizzle for a while before picking up again. The sight of the house and the warmth it held was like the morning sun to Alcina. She quickened her pace.
Her clothes stuck to her skin as she ran up to the door of the house, shivering as she pushed the door open. As she stepped into the house, she prepared herself for whatever was about to happen, because Rachael wasn't going to let this slide.

"Alcina!" Rachael shouted on the top of her lungs from the sitting room and Alcina cringed. Slowly, she walked in to find her twin step sisters with evil grins on their faces. They were a little too happy about her predicament, not that this was new.

"Where were you?" Rachael asked looking at her claw-like nails.

"Working," Acina said bluntly.

"Why are you late?" Rachael asked again.

"I had to work over time," she replied calmly. "And it's raining outside for Pete's sake, of course I would be late."

"You ungrateful child. I took you under my care after the death of your father and this is how you behave?"
Alcina rolled her eyes at this. All their arguments always led to that line sometimes filled with verbal abuse.

"For late coming and talking to me that way there will be no dinner for you this night. Go to your room." Typical threat. But Alcina had come prepared, she had bought takeouts on her way home in case this happened.

She turned on her heels and said, "There really is nothing to be grateful for. Once I turn eighteen, I'm out of this hell-hole. I wasn't even hungry anyway." Alcina began walking to her room casually. Her room was small compared to her step sisters rooms. But what could she do. She was turning eighteen in a few months, her freedom was also in a few months. The day she turns eighteen she would contact her father's lawyer and get all her inheritance from this witch and move on with her life.

She took off her wet clothes and took a hot shower. She put on a large shirt and some shorts. Alcina had lied to Rachael. She was hungry. She wasted no time in chewing down the takeouts she'd bought. She hurriedly did her homework and went to sleep with thoughts of her deceased parents, how she missed them.

She woke up to banging on her door. It was barely five in the morning. Alcina prepared herself to lash out at whoever had committed this atrocity. She swung the door open to come face to face with her step sister, Jane. Alcina was older than Jane and Janice by a year but they had the rights to speak to her as they pleased.

"What could you possibly want, banging on my door at five oh clock in the morning?" Alcina screamed at her.

"Mom says she wants to see breakfast by 7:00am!" She yelled back. Oh the nerve. Alcina slammed the door in Jane's face to prevent herself from doing something she would regret. She wasn't a servant and she would cook breakfast when she wanted to cook breakfast.

With that in mind, Alcina picked out her outfit for school and went to take a shower. She was done under fifteen minutes, in record time.

It was six thirty by the time she was done, she wasn't usually this early. School starts seven thirty, but she wasn't planning on cooking anyone's breakfast. Alcina slipped out of the room with her backpack hung over her shoulder. She walked over to the kitchen, smiling and doing an evil laugh in her head  as she took the last bottle of orange juice. What could she do? Growing up with three witches turns you into one. Speaking of the witches, Alcina dashed for the door as she heard some movement upstairs. Oh Rachael would be so mad, she thought smiling.
