Alcina felt weak when she woke up in her room in the Moretti house. She'd been drifting in and out of consciousness. Sometimes she'd seen her parents smiling down at her and she would smile back. Then they would leave. She saw Leonardo sitting beside her every time. Now she was sad to see the empty chair beside the huge bed.
But as she looked across the room, she saw him lying on the sofa. His eyes closed, his hair ruffled, a few buttons of his shirt loose and his chest rising and falling softly. Alcina sighed, she could watch this all day. She tried adjusting her pillow but a sharp pain in her side made her wince. That woke Leonardo and he came to her side.
"Hey, where do you think you're going?". He asked.
"I was just going to adjust my pillow". Alcina replied.
Leonardo fluffed the pillow. "Anything else?".
"No". Alcina actually needed water, but he looked so tired. She just wanted him to rest too. He went back to the sofa, but he sat still, looking at her.
"Aren't you going to sleep? You look tired". She said.
"Not until you do"
With a deep sigh, she closed her eyes, trying to ignore his own eyes on her face. After a while Alcina opened one eye and sure enough, he was fast asleep again. Eventually she fell asleep too.
She woke up to the murmuring of two voices, the both of them very familiar. She kept her eyes closed, listening to their discussion about her, apparently.
"I don't know. After all that trouble we caused, other families might be after us too. I just can't let her go". Leonardo was answering the other person's question.
"What about Giovanni?". Alcina heard Catherine ask.
"We took care of him. A few hours after the fight, most of his men surrendered. But we're still doubting how loyal they are. The others defected to other families. Those aren't my problem".
Alcina opened her eyes to see the both of them on the sofa, Leonardo had his head in his hands. He was wearing different clothes now.
"Oh look, she's awake". Ms C told Leonardo who looked up.
"Hello Ms C". Alcina smiled. Catherine walked to the bed and sat down on it.
"How are you Alcina? Leonardo told me what happened...". Catherine was saying but Leonardo interrupted her.
"Why don't you just tell her already?". He said as he stood up and began pacing the room.
Catherine sighed and Alcina kept glancing between the two.
"I'm actually Leonardo's aunt, I knew who you were the whole time. My two sons in Italy are his cousins".Alcina blinked, then it dawned on her. Lucas had mentioned an Aunt Catherine before. How had she not noticed that accent. A knock on the door ended the moment.
"Hey". Lucas' head popped through the door. "Can I come in now?". He asked Leonardo.
"No, she's..."
"Actually, I don't mind". Alcina said. Lucas grinned and opened the door wider and David, Christopher and Tommy came in with him. They all plopped down on the bed, crowding her.
"I heard you gave Giovanni a beat down". Tommy said grinning.
Alcina snorted. "I think it was the other way around. Where is he by the way?"
"All taken care of". David said casually.
"You know none of this would've have happened if you'd never left the club". Lucas said and Alcina glanced at Leonardo, just in time to catch the guilty look on his face.
She shrugged. "All this was bound to happen eventually".
"It wouldn't have happened if they hadn't taken you to the club".Christopher grumbled. Then Alcina remembered something.
"Lucas, don't you owe me money?". She asked with a raised brow. "150 to be precise"
"What? No I don't". Lucas said.
"We had a deal at the club. You made me get drunk, for money". Alcina narrowed her eyes.
"I remember". David said.
"I don't remember". Lucas denied.
Alcina leaned towards him and whispered. "I still remember first kisses and I'm not afraid to blackmail you".
"Now I remember". He laughed nervously. "I'll go get it now"
"Alright, everyone out". Elizabeth said as she brought a tray of food. "She's probably hungry and the doctor will be here soon for medications. So why don't we all give her some space"
Catherine and the boys all left the room with Elizabeth, leaving Alcina alone with Leonardo once again.
"Leo could you push the food closer?". Alcina asked, she did not miss his reaction to the nickname. The bed dipped as he sat beside her.
"Why don't you like me calling you Leo?" Alcina asked after he'd brought it nearer.
He shook his head. "Forget about it"
"No, I can't just forget about it like it's nothing. So tell me". She pressed further.
"You're just so stubborn". Leonardo sighed. "Remember the ex I told you about? She used to call me Leo too in the sweetest way possible. Almost like you do. It reminds me painfully about her and what I thought we had"
Alcina's eyes widened as he unbuttoned his shirt. "What are you doing?"
"I might as well show you the whole baggage". He said as he smiled sadly.
Alcina desperately avoided ogling his chest and tried to focus on what he was showing her. Sure enough, there were scars on his body, but one stood out. A dent near his left shoulder. Scooting closer and ignoring the pain in her side, she ran a finger across it.
"Do you know how haunting it was to see a gun pointed at me from a woman I thought I loved? What's worse is having to see the scar everyday". Alcina heard the pain in his voice, she could see through the godfather facade he usually put up in the presence of people. Who said he couldn't be the godfather he is known as and still be this Leonardo he was showing her now. But she didn't know how to tell him all that.
She looked away from his chest to his face, determined to do one thing. Without hesitation, she closed the gap between them and kissed him. It took a while for the kiss to register, but soon enough he was kissing her back. Alcina etched each moment into her memory. All the pent up emotions increased the urgency of the kiss. She pushed her hand into his thick hair, as his hands caressed her body, bringing her closer.
Eventually, the pressure on her side got too much and she winced. Leonardo sensed this and finally let her go. They just sat there, listening to their breathing which seemed to be synchronised.
"How bout I eat now?". Alcina asked and he smiled.
"Alcina, as long as I keep getting kisses like this, you can call me Leo whenever you want". This had Alcina grinning as she ate. And throughout that day as she freshened up.
