When we all stood up to leave the restaurant, Mr. Haku moved to my side.
"May I?" He asked, holding his arm out so I could wrap mine around his. From the corner of my eye I could see the look on Lucas's face, he looked worried.
I wrapped my arm around Mr. Haku's and let him lead me out of the restaurant. Lucas stayed one step behind us.
When we were outside, Mr. Haku walked me to Lucas's car and opened the door for me to sit inside. When I was in he closed the door behind me.
When Lucas got in the car he looked at me, I could tell he was pissed.
For the whole ride home I looked down at my hands, why should he be mad at me, he is the one doing this. He didn't introduce me as his girlfriend, witch met I wasn't. Plus he insulted me again. Telling me to dress nice, before we met with Mr. Haku.
When we pulled into Lucas's driveway he parked the car and got out, I pushed the passenger door open and climbed out.
"Be careful.." He said when I closed the driver side door.
"Your concerned? You didn't mind making me walk home this morning." I snapped.
"Marie." Before he could say anything else, I rolled the window up and drove away.
When I got home, I laid on the couch with a gallon of ice cream and watched "if I stay" and "dear john"
By the end of the second movie I was exhausted, I put my ice cream away and went to bed.
The next morning I got up and got ready for work, I dressed in a pair of white jeans and a hot pink blouse, and a pair of black flats.
When I got to Lucas's house I went straight to the kitchen and prepared his breakfast, I took it to his office.
"Mr. Haku is coming to discuss a business deal, bring him straight up here when he arrives."
Where else would I take him? The hall closet?
"Yes, sir." I said before I turned away from him and went downstairs to clean up the kitchen.
When I finished cleaning I sat down on the couch and started texting Abby , we planned on going riding when I got home, riding really cleared my mind and helped me relax.
When the doorbell rang I got up and let Mr. Haku in, I let him up to Lucas's office.
When they came back down I was sweeping the hallway inside the door, Lucas glanced over at me then turned to Mr. Haku, I pulled the front door open for Mr. Haku.
"Marie," Mr. Haku said, "would you like to have dinner tonight, maybe discuss a business deal? I wasn't kidding when I said you would make a valuable member of my company."
"Thank you, sir." I smiled. Lucas tensed up and shot me a dirty look,
"But I have plans tonight.""Maybe another time then?"
"Maybe." I said, closing the door behind Mr. Haku.
I turned around and walked into the kitchen. The clock on the oven said it was almost 4:00 in the afternoon. Where had the time gone?
"You can go home if you'd like." Lucas said walking into the kitchen.
My phone started ringing before I could reply. I answered it,
"How long till your off?" She asked.
"Now, I'm on my way." I said before I hung up the phone."Who was that?" Lucas asked.
I rolled my eyes and walked past him."Are you taking his job offer?" He called after me.
"Does it matter?"
"I don't want to lose you.."
"As an assistant?" I asked before I walked out the door. I walked to my car with tears in my eyes.
When I got home Gabe and Abby were sitting in lawn chairs by the garage, Gabe had tools and bike parts everywhere.
I got out of the car, when I herd tires coming up the gravel behind me I walked straight into the house and went to my bedroom to change.
I pulled on my shortest pair of jean shorts and a crop top, and my riding boots.
I walked out to the garage, Lucas and Gabe were working on a bike while Abby sat and watched.
"You ridin?" She asked as I walked past her to get my bike out of the garage.
I nodded my head and she got up and climbed on gabes bike. When I saw Lucas watching me I turned around and started to pull my bike out.
I made sure it was in gear but it wouldn't move.
"Gabe help me." I said
"I'm busy." He replied without looking at me.
Lucas walked over to me and pushed the bike out effortlessly. I crossed my arms and followed him out of the garage.
I climbed on the bike and started it, I held the clutch and throttle so the tires threw up some dirt before I released the clutch and sped off, a lot faster than I should have.
Abby followed me to the trails where we separated and rode through the woods. I was climbing a big hill, I moved my foot to put the bike in a higher gear when it slipped and I started sliding backwards, the back tire caught on something and the tires lifted off the ground.
I was about to be crushed.
