When I returned home with the dress I had bought for tonight I went inside and tried it on.

It was a short, white lace dress, it fit tight against my body, showing off my curves.

"Babe, you could have gotten a pair of jeans and a shirt." Lucas said when I was finished putting the dress on.

"I'm not wearing jeans to meet your parents."

"You don't have to be all dressed up to meet them, this is what I'm wearing."

I looked over Lucas's outfit, a pair of dark blue jeans, and a t-shirt with the sleeves cut off of it.

"So I waisted money on this dress?" I said crossing my arms.

Lucas pulled me into his arms and kissed my neck.

"I'm sure we can put it to good use."

I leaned into him and put my lips to his. Then pushed him out my bedroom door and closed it.

I walked over to my closet and took out a pair of tight fitting capris and a black tank top, I slipped the dress off and put the outfit on.

Going to my dresser I took out a bright pink flannel shirt and buttoned it over my body, leaving the top part undone, I rolled up the sleeves and opened the door.

Lucas was standing there waiting on me to let him back in, he looked my body up and down.

"That's better, my little country girl." He said, putting his hands on my hips, leaning down and kissing me passionately.

When we stopped kissing I went to the bathroom and plugged in my hair straightener, Lucas came in and sat on the sink.

I pulled the top half of my hair into a bun and sectioned off the parts that I left out.

"I love your curls." He said as I brought the straightener up to the first strand. I ignored him and started working on my hair.

When I was finished I sprayed my head with Aussie hairspray to keep my hair from frizzing

"Ew! Babe u sprayed that right in my mouth." Lucas whined.

I gave him a pout face and walked out of the bathroom.

We decided to go back to Lucas's place a little early so I could clean before his parents arrived. I slipped on my black sandals and made sure all the doors were locked before we left.

It didn't take long for me to finish cleaning, while I straightened up the pillows on the couch, the doorbell rang, my heart sped up a bit and my palms started to sweat.

Lucas walked from the kitchen to the door,  he looked over at me, putting his arm out for me to come to him.
"Don't be nervous." He whispered in my ear.

He opened the door and his parents stepped inside, his mother grabbed his face in her hands and kissed his cheek, then looked over at me.

"Oh Lucas, she's beautiful!" I blushed at her words.

"hello dear, I'm Lou and this is my husband Ed."

"Hello." Ed greeted.

"It's very nice to meet you." I smiled. "I'm Marie."

"Ma, pa, come on in, I just started the grill."

Lucas and I stepped aside so his parents could come into the house.

The first thing I noticed about them was the way they were dressed. Lou was wearing a pair of blue jean slacks and a white shirt with a floral pattern.

Ed was wearing a pair of Levi jeans and a red and blue flannel with a white t-shirt underneath. Neither of them were dressed like they had more money than they knew what to do with.

My nervousness started to fade.

We all gathered on the back deck where Lucas was grilling hotdogs and hamburgers, lou and I sat down and talked while Ed hovered over Lucas.

"So dear, how did you and Luke meet?"

"I actually started working for him, he and my brother became good friends, they hung out at my house a lot - we just clicked."

"He's happy with you." She said with a smile.

I smiled back at her, "he makes me happy too."

Lucas and Ed joined us at the table when the food was finished, for a while we sat in silence.

"So when should we expect some grand children?" Lou blurted out.

My eyes widened at her question. No time soon! I thought to myself.

"Ma!" Lucas said, getting up from the table to get himself a drink.

"Well, I'm not getting any younger." Lou said, brushing her hair back. Ed chuckled and she shot him one of those looks that met shut the hell up or your walking home.

I stayed quiet the rest of the meal and let Lucas do most of the talking. When everyone was finished eating, Ed and Lou got up from the table to say their goodbyes.

"It was so nice meeting you, Marie." She said, pulling me into a hug, "by the way, I just wanted to see you and Luke's reaction to my question, I have 2 grandchildren." She whispered the last part so only I could hear.

I let out a nervous laugh and said goodbye to Ed before they walked through the house and out the front door.

I gathered up the dirty dinner dishes and took them inside to wash them, Lucas sat outside, finishing his fifth beer.

When I was finished with the last dish, Lucas walked through the doors, he leaned against the counter top.

"Would you like to stay here tonight?" He asked.

"I don't have any clothes here."

Lucas didn't say anything, he took my hand and led me up the steps. We walked down the hall to the room where id slept the first time I stayed here.

When he pushed the door open, I noticed a large box, sitting on the end of the bed.

I walked over to it and pulled the top off, inside it was a note, laying on top of some tissue paper, covering whatever else was in the box.

"Have fun, your welcome! XX -Abby"

I shook my head and smiled, I pulled the tissue paper back and took out the many pieces of lingerie.

I put the lid back on the box and walked down the steps, I found Lucas sitting in the living room, rolling a blunt.

I sat down and waited for it to be handed to me, while we smoked we talked about the dinner we had tonight.

"My mom really likes you, she knows how much you mean to me."

"I like her too, she's sweet." I smiled, thinking about what my mom would be like if she were still alive, she passed away giving birth to me, my father raised Gabe and myself, alone.

Over the next 10 minutes we were silent. When Lucas put the remainder of the blunt in the ashtray, he stood up,
"I'm going to head to bed."

I frowned at him and nodded my head. I got up after him and walked through the house, making sure everything was locked and all the downstairs lights were turned off.

Lucas had already disappeared into his bedroom, I stopped at the top of the steps and glanced at his door, it was cracked but I could tell the light was off.

I walked down the hall and went into the bedroom where the box of clothes were, I took out a silk night dress and stripped from my clothes, I slipped the dress over my head and crawled under the blankets.

I was disappointed that Lucas didn't ask me to sleep with him.
