My eyes snapped open before I sat up quickly. I apparently sat up too quickly because I became lightheaded. My body was filled with a sharp pain making me grit my teeth, holding in a shout. I let out a frustrated grunt.
"You should try and take it easy, sweetheart." A familiar cheery voice says as I hear the click of a door closing. I let my hand drop into my lap as I let out a sigh. "You passed out from your training sessions with Satoshi and Jinju two days ago." He explains as I look over at him slowly.
He stood beside the bedside, placing a tray of food on a nightstand before settling himself down in a chair next to me. His light brown eyes were filled with concern as he stared at me, he ran his hand through his dark chocolate colored hair, making his beaded bracelet rattle. He wore that thing religiously, despite how ugly it was. I let out a humorless laugh.
"Figures. Those bastards can never have enough, can they?" I say shaking my head, instantly the wounds of the training stung at the movement. "Where am I?"
"My house. They...left you once you passed out." He says in anger, glaring down at the floor I see his hands clench into fists. I looked him over, he was slummed in the chair wearing a white V-neck and black jeans. His slightly tanned skin glowed in the morning sun, though the light also exposed the dark circles under his eyes. My expression softens realizing he had yet another sleepless night because of me.
"What do you expect, Ryuu? That's just...how they are. We both grew up with them around." I say with a shrug.
"More you than me. You're the one who has to deal with their ruthless training, they push you so hard. It'd be impossible for anyone who hasn't grown accustomed to their ways. Ryder, it's cruel." Ryuu says looking at the ground with a frown.
Sighing I place a hand on his cheek softly getting his attention. I give him a sad smile stroking his cheek with my thumb. "It's fine, Ryuu. Just the costs of being the next in line."
"Bullshit." He mutters pushing himself out of his seat while shaking his head. Looking down at me he gives me a toothy grin. "Get eating woman, you need your energy back. You'll be unbothered here for a few hours before they come looking for you."
I groan realizing how much more training I would have to do for passing out. Flopping back on the bed I pull the blanket over my head. "Then let me sleep a little more, Ryuu. Wake me so I can eat and relax for an hour or two..."
"Of course." Patting my head he leaves the room before I manage to fall asleep easily from exhaustion.

"You think we'll ever be able to do anything?" Ryuu asks as I sit beside him on the couch eating the last of my eggs and toast."About what?" I ask tilting my head at him.
"Our village...the people. Your uncle." He says rolling his eyes at me. I swallow the food in my mouth before letting out a sigh turning to him. "You know things haven't been the same and...well, your uncle is losing control." I raise a brow at him confused. "Don't tell me you haven't noticed that ever since he got control of the village, everyone has gotten more rude and brutal."
"They lost their leader. What do you expect?" I ask with a shrug leaning back against the couch.
"It's more than that. I feel like something terrible is going on in our home."
"...I don't know, Ryuu. I mean, what can I do about it?" I ask staring at the dirty plate in my lap. "Satoshi trains me any minute he can and when I don't meet his standards..." I trailed off, both of us knowing what I meant. "And Jinju, that guy will do anything to keep me under his control. He's an elder so, he has the power to do whatever he wants. Old prick."
