The stars in the sky twinkled and sparkled beautifully as I stared up at the night sky. After being pulled along for dinner I managed to find a quiet balcony at the restaurant the group took me to. Everyone was distracted by Blackstar and Kid getting into an argument over something stupid so I managed to slip away without being noticed.
All of them were quite friendly and open but I couldn't shake the feeling of restlessness. I rested my head in my hands with a sigh, everything was happening so quickly. One minute I was with my best-friend enduring my hellish life and then suddenly I'm in actual hell. As the miesters and weapons laughed, ate, and joked carefree in the dining room... I couldn't stop thinking of my people. I didn't want to get close to these strangers, I want to restore my clan.
"Hey." I turned my head and saw Soul leaning against the doorway frame with his hands in his jacket pockets. Pushing himself off the frame, Soul approached the same railing I was leaning on and looks up at the night sky. "Those idiots can be a little crazy but I swear they're cool after getting to know them." He says with a chuckle. I returned my gaze up at the sky with a calm expression.
"I just needed some fresh air. No offense to your friends."
"None taken. I need a breather from them too sometimes, guess that's why I'm standing out here in the cold with a stranger, huh?" He said with a smirk, exposing his sharp teeth.
"...I suppose so, yeah." I sighed closing my eyes. People would usually describe me as cold at first. I didn't really make new friends, as the next leader people of my clan always were proper and polite. Not many spoke informally or attempted to form a bond with me. I spoke with the elders, Ryuu and Kuro. Those people were most of my human interactions, some more pleasant than others. Ryuu...
"You seem deep in thought." He said with a sweat dropped turning his gaze to me.
"...It's...difficult to explain." I sighed, I just didn't feel like talking to some boy about my problems. I don't think I'll be staying here long, Death City was not my home. I suppose my real home was in ruins now or taken over by demons.
"Maka explained to me the situation you're stuck in." He admitted making me tense up. "I know I can't help much but for what it's worth I think you're doing the right thing. It's hard to wait." As Soul spoke there was no sympathy in his voice, his tone was calm but I could tell he meant what he said.
I nodded, relaxing and taking a breath in. "I appreciate that. I'm not familiar with the outside world really..."
"What? C'mon you've at least have had to have traveled a bit right?" Soul asked in disbelief.
"If pictures count." I shrugged with a small chuckle. "I've been out on missions to some places but not for long, not long enough to get used to the outside." Thinking back on it, I used to read books on Death City and it's established school. I never thought I'd be here under these conditions.
"Right, your clan were assassins...so you're a trained assassin?"
I shrugged rubbing the side of my arm. "I guess so." I answered sweat dropping, I mean I'm trained yeah but...
"Heh, I'll make sure not to get on your bad side then." He chuckled before nodding his head in the direction of the entrance back into the restaurant. "C'mon, I'm sure those idiots are done. Besides it's cold out here."
I looked at Soul in bewilderment, he was so calm and caring for someone he doesn't even know. For all he knew I could be assigned to assassin someone in the DWMA. I wasn't used to the blind trust this stranger had, it was so rare in my clan to be open with outsiders. Nakamura's aren't even allowed to marry outside of the clan, to keep our bloodline pure.
