"You sure took your time, didn't you?" Satoshi said as I shut the door behind me. He had his back turned to me as he sat at his desk, scribbling away at some book. I let out a silent sigh hearing the annoyed tone in his voice.

"I couldn't quite control when I would wake up." I reply bitterly walking farther into the house. His house was always so dark and gloomy, almost no light could come through the dark curtains he hung all over the windows. He's like a damn vampire the way he blocks out so much of the sun. Wouldn't be a surprise, he already sucked the majority of my life away.

"Considering how much spirit you have in yourself, I don't believe your reasons for not waking up quicker. If you were in battle you'd be dead." He says making me frown and narrow my eyes at him, the crazy man always acts as if we're going to war any day now. "I mean, our own leader couldn't even withstand a few-"

"Shut up." If my uncle is good at anything, he can always manage to piss me off.

"Mind your tongue." Satoshi says sharply, not even bothering to turn towards me as he continues writing in his journal. I guess that's more important right now than scolding me and punishing me. My smart mouth always gets me in trouble.

"You had me training for a day and a half with maybe an hour or two of sleep and small meals, what do you expect of me?" I hiss crossing my arms over my chest. "I can't function on nothing."

"You must learn to survive at the most harsh of conditions. You'd be a shameful Nakamura if you couldn't even handle so little of a challenge."

"I'm not some robot who can survive on nothing but oil."

"I'm growing tired of your mouth little girl and you're testing my patience. Out of here, I'll teach you a lesson about how to speak to your guardian when I have time for you." He spits out.

By the sound of that, seems like I'll be sore for even more days than I had planned. What else is new? I dragged my feet up the stairs to my room, I shut the door behind myself before flopping onto to bed. I'll just have to waste time before I go and meet with the demon himself for my punishment. I sat up on my bed glancing around the room, it was pretty tiny.

A small circular window that prevented any means of escape and a small closet in the corner of the room. Barley any clothes were in there. It's become more useful as a hiding spot rather than a place for storage. There were random instruments sticking out from under my bed and a cardboard box in the corner of my room. Satoshi expected me to be some perfect child so learning these instruments were mandatory in his eyes.

I would be lying if I said I didn't enjoy some of these instruments, such as the violin or ocarina but Satoshi managed to ruin the learning experience. Any time I missed a note or messed up in any way then, time for punishment. There was no room for mistakes for that man. Everything had to be perfect.

It was frightening as a child to have your uncle screaming at you that you're not perfect. Perhaps scarring but it's too late now to tell. I could never understand how someone could be so cruel to a child, my childhood was barely much of a childhood because of that swine. I couldn't even begin to understand how Satoshi's mind works, he's a ticking time bomb.

Sadly, he's a bomb that wouldn't ever explode from my life.

I kicked an instrument that was sticking out from under my bed and made it slide across the floor to the other side of the room before it made a soft thud as it hit the wall. Upon hearing the small noise, the house began to fill itself with the harsh footsteps of Satoshi as he made his way up the stairs. I stared at the window as his footsteps slowly became louder and louder, meaning I was a few seconds short of another 'lesson' from him.

My door swung open as I continued staring out the window, where little light came into my room.

"The polite thing would be to greet your uncle once he enters your room."

I wonder how small I would have to be to fit through that window, if only I could squeeze through and make my way back to Ryuu. A home with warm arms and caring eyes, a sense of love roaming in the halls as you walk down admiring the pictures adorned the walls.

"Show some respect to your elder."

A home where a mother greets you with a smile and meal. A father who protects you from all harm. An environment filled..so filled with care you could feel the love emitting from the house a mile away. That's home...that's my home.

He stepped further into my room, shutting the door behind him. I closed my eyes and let out a slow and steady breath through my nose as the grip on my bed tightened. His presence loomed over me like a dark shadow that would never go away. He followed so close behind, but I am never able to run far enough away to escape the shadow.

A home with love...

That is not my home. Not anymore.

A rough hand found its grip in my crimson hair as I am lifted off my bed. I open my eyes slowly, my sight is filled with the image of a tan man in his 30's with black Raven hair and brown eyes. His face showed nothing but disgust, his eyes showed hatred and I'm certain mine did as well. No one could ever look as ugly as Satoshi in my eyes, what hideous creature must be created to surpass such a horrendous creature that is the man in front of me.

My vision blurred and my thoughts were scrambled as my head made contact with the wall. I pushed my upper half off the floor and stared up at the ugliness in front of me. I never will understand how someone could be so cruel to a child, especially when they're related to them.

"I've warned you countless times to show me respect." He spat staring down at me. "Not only am I your superior but I am your uncle!" He shouts with fury, as if he had the right to be mad.

"The fact that we are related is unrelated in our relationship, this moment right now proves it." I stated staring up at him, he acts as if he cares. I saw his facial expression contort into even more disgust. My smart mouth will never fail to get me into even more trouble.

*~*~*~*

A soft thud against my window made me sit up from my bed, the moonlight shined through the tiny window and as I continued to stare a small pebble hit the window lightly. I smiled softly to myself, then proceed to go through with the routine every time those pebbles would hit my window. I got out of my bed and slipped on my shoes and a thin black sweater. I quietly turned the knob of my bedroom door and tiptoed down the stairs. I quietly picked the lock to the door outside and slipped out of the treacherous house of mine.

I went to the back of the house to find Ryuu waiting for me, he jerked his head in the direction he wanted me to follow him to. I followed silently behind, wanting to be as far away from the house before uttering any words from my mouth. He stopped by a giant tree in the forest, we're pretty deep in the forest so the chance of being found was very slim. He sat, leaning against the tree trunk and grabbed my hand, pulling me down with him. He rested my head on his lap and stared up at the stars.

We sat in silence for a while, as we stared up at the starry sky. "Hey, Ryder." He started, breaking the silence. "Just think, in a few years you'll be free of Satoshi. No more of these late nights.."

I adjusted my head so I could stare up at Ryuu , he had a somber expression on his face. "Don't worry, Ryuu. If I've lived years of this hellish life, I think I can withstand a couple more. If I couldn't, what kind of Nakamura would I be?" I laughed.

He stared down at me with an unreadable expression, he patted my head before letting out a deep sigh and turning his attention back on the sky. "I just can't shake this feeling of dread, something just isn't right in our village." I raised a brow at him, wanting to him to continue and go further into depth with his suspicions, but he kept quiet and chose to ignore me.

I didn't question him any further and the rest of the night, we both stared up at the starry night sky in comforting silence.
