Griffin’s refusal to go to school on Monday morning was another in what turned out to be a series of refusals he made since coming home from the hospital. All weekend, he refused to talk to Fallon or Lucian just as he refused to see them. He refused to eat with them, if he was even eating all. For the first time since she’d moved in, he refused to share a bed with them. As far as she knew, he hadn’t been out of his room all weekend.
On finding a note taped to his door announcing he wasn’t going to school, Fallon was ready to confront him. Enough was enough. Considering how worried they’d been and how they’d rushed to his hospital bedside as soon as they could, she thought she and Lucian deserved better. Just as he’d been doing all weekend, Lucian talked her out of taking action and convinced her to give Griffin a little more time. Though she agreed, she didn’t tell Lucian today was it. If Griffin still wasn’t talking to them by the end of the day, she was going to have it out with him.
Fallon and Lucian barely had time to get out of his car when Daphne and Ava flew toward them. Seth was hot on their heels.
“OML, its true isn’t it?” Daphne cried.
“What’s true?” Fallon asked.
“There’s a rumor going around school that Griffin got raped at the party the other night,” Ava admitted.
Fallon furrowed her brow. How could something like that be all over school when first period hadn’t even started yet?
“Is it true?” Daphne pressed. “Is that why Griffin’s not coming to school today?”
The sky blackened, and thunder rumbled around them. “It’s not true, and if you say it again, I’ll kill you,” Lucian snarled.
Daphne shrank back as he stepped toward her and bought his face inches from hers.
Ava grabbed her arm. “Um, we gotta go. We’ll catch you guys later.”
They’d never moved faster in their lives, not even for a half off sale on shoes at the mall. With their heads bent together, they were no doubt theorizing on whether or not the rumor was true.
Lucian looked at Seth. “Make sure Fallon gets to class.”
Fallon turned her frown in Lucian’s direction. “What are you going to do?”
“I’ve got to find a way to convince Griff to come to school for some major damage control on this rumor.”
Lucian gave her a quick kiss before he hopped back in his truck and peeled off. It would’ve been faster for him to transport, but she didn’t dwell on it. Instead, she wondered how something like this could’ve happened. As the son of Satan, Griffin should’ve been immune to this kind of evil rather than being on the receiving end of it.
As they crossed the campus to the north hall, they were subjected to endless stares and whispers. Every hushed conversation and second glance shortened the fuse of her anger which threatened to skyrocket when they stepped into the hall and she spotted Tarilyn a few feet ahead of them.
“Take it easy,” Seth murmured when the lights above their heads flickered.
Until he spoke, she hadn’t realized it was her emotion causing the electrical reaction.
“It just pisses me off to see her walking around like nothing happened.”
“I’ll say this for her. She’s got some major balls.”
