“Are you sure this is a good idea?” Fallon asked.
After their warning from The Holy Servant, she wasn’t so sure it was a good idea for Griffin and Lucian to keep up their revolving door switch. If he was onto their game, maybe someone else would be too.
“I don’t think it makes a difference,” Griffin said. “The Holy Servant already knows who the three of us are. It’s not like you and I acting brother-sister at school is going to change that.”
Fallon’s face fell when Lucian pulled his Escalade in front of the school. Daphne and Ava were congregated on the sidewalk with Seth. The last thing she cared about was hearing how much fun they had over their winter vacation doing whatever pointless and trivial things they’d done.
“Hey, you guys look great,” Daphne called when they emerged from the car.
“You’re totally tan,” Ava agreed. “It looks like you spent your whole vacation at the beach.”
For the first time since that DVD landed in their laps, Fallon gave in to a genuine smile as she recalled the fun they shared before that.
“What’d you guys do?” Daphne asked.
“Nothing you need to know about,” Griffin said, and Daphne furrowed her brow. “Seth, take a walk with me.”
“What’s up his ass?” Daphne said as he and Seth sauntered off.
Lucian shrugged. “Maybe he’s sick of you trying to pretend we’re all best friends for life when we all know you’re nothing more than a glorified slave.”
Daphne heaved a sigh. “I’m so sick of your crappy attitude,” she said and then looked at Fallon. “Look, you know I love you girl, but I’m not putting up with this anymore.”
When she spun on her heel, Lucian didn’t try to stop her.
Ava darted her eyes from them to Daphne shrinking in the distance. “I’ll go talk to her,” she offered and then went after Daphne.
“What was that all about?” Fallon asked.
Lucian offered her a grin. “To be honest, I like pissing Daphne off, but this time there was a little bit more to it.”
“What do you mean?”
“Until we can smoke out The Holy Servant, they’re in our way.”
“You don’t think we need them to find out who The Holy Servant is?”
“No, we don’t need them at all.”
“Okay, but you don’t think pissing them off could backfire and have them join his side to fight against us?”
Lucian laughed. “Not unless they want to end up like Corina or Tarilyn or countless others swimming in the lake of fire.”
As they walked hand in hand to her economics class, Fallon swept her eyes around wondering if The Holy Servant was watching them at that very minute. For all they knew one of their friends was already working with him, even if they didn’t realize it. No doubt Christian Church and his God Squad were and that included Angelica. Maybe all that stuff about Christian refusing to make her brother well was a lie to get close to them. It worked well enough to get them to drop their guard and invite her into their home more than once. And she’d been there the night Griffin was kidnapped by Tarilyn. Maybe that wasn’t a coincidence, and she was the fox in the henhouse.
“I already thought about that, but it’s not her. She has too much to lose.”
“Then who is it?”
