“You know, there’s something I’ve been wondering,” Fallon began.
Having just left Griffin at the main hall, she and Lucian were heading in the direction of her first period class.
“How someone as sexy as me can be real?” Lucian joked.
“Conceited much?” she teased and he shrugged. “I was wondering why The Holy Servant hasn’t taken us out already? Why go through all this other junk?”
“Besides the fact that he likes to play with us, it’s not that easy.”
“What do you mean?”
“The three of us together are more powerful than The Holy Servant. The only way for him to defeat us is to pick us off one by one, which is easier said than done.”
“Because we’re always together?”
“And because his power is tied to holy places which we don’t usually go near.”
Fallon suddenly understood why the twins were so reluctant to let her go through with this plan of crossing into enemy territory. If The Holy Servant got to her then they’d all go down. Simeon had to know that, but he allowed her to go ahead with it. Did he believe in her that much?
“We all believe in you,” Lucian assured her. “It’s just hard to let you do something so dangerous when our natural instinct is to protect you from danger.”
The smile Fallon was about to offer him never made it to her lips. It was difficult to manage a smile, even for Lucian, when the sight of Christian waiting at the end of the hall made her stomach turn.
“Speaking of protecting you from danger, what do you suppose Jesus Junior’s up to?” Lucian mused.
Fallon giggled. “Maybe he’s waiting to say good morning to us.”
“Then we definitely shouldn’t deprive him of that opportunity,” Lucian said and waved at Christian as they approached. “Hey, Church. What’s up?”
“I need to talk to Fallon.”
“So talk,” Lucian suggested.
“My uncle wants you to come to dinner at our house tonight,” Christian told her.
“What for?” Fallon shrilled.
“I’m supposed to tell you it’s so you can help your mom with the wedding plans.”
“When it’s really about him trying to get in Fallon’s head and see if she’s telling the truth about wanting to leave us,” Lucian guessed.
“Probably,” Christian agreed.
“Why don’t you tell your uncle to suck my--”
“I get it all right, but it’s not like we have a choice. If Fallon doesn’t do this, he’ll know she was lying.”
“So what?”
“So you’ll lose your chance to get in our house and look for clues about who The Holy Servant might be.”
Fallon furrowed her brow. “I thought only your grandpa knew that.”
