— Josh —

"Wren, please hear me out."

She plopped down on the couch with a huff. "Why are you trying to defend him?"

"Because he's- he was- my best friend." Wren rolled her eyes. "You don't even know what happened!"

"Because he punched me!" She snapped. "I don't know anything anymore!"

"He wasn't trying to hit you, he was trying to hit me." I paused, expecting her to blow up again. But Wren just stared up at me in confusion. "I swung at him first. And he tried to swing back but you tried to block him for me, which was stupid of you, no offense."

"I was just protecting my boyfriend."

"Not when he was your boyfriend."

Wren froze. "Tyler...?" I nodded. A shaky sigh left her lips, and she ran her fingers through her hair. "Josh, what the hell happened?"

I sat next to her on the couch and explained everything. From me cheating on her, the band breaking up, her leaving Tyler on tour- everything. She was crying throughout the whole thing which made it harder to explain. But I did it. I told her everything I did wrong, and everything that Tyler did right. I came clean. As I continued, her emotions went from disbelief to anger and then to deep sadness.

When I was finished, she didn't speak. She just stared at her hands in her lap, lost in a whirlwind of thoughts and emotions. I tried to stand up to leave, but she stopped me.

"Please stay." She whispered, her voice trembling.

"Did you not hear anything I just said?"

She nodded, starting to cry again. "I heard you, I just- I don't know what to do. I don't even remember being with Tyler, and you expect me to just go back to him?"

"I guess I didn't think about that." I admitted, my own emotions now a turbulent storm. "But I'm not staying. I can't. You deserve someone better. You need Tyler."

"Okay." she whispered, her voice barely audible over the sound of her sobs.

"Take care, Wren. I mean it. If you need anything, call Ty first. He cares about you more than anything, I promise."

She nodded, clutching her phone tightly as if it were a lifeline. I smiled, though it was a sad and regretful one, and left, returning back to my own apartment, leaving Wren to confront the emotions that now raged within her.
