seokmin looked at the room before the doctors had entered, the doors slamming shut. the look on his mother's face terrified him; she looked so frail, so fragile. she looked as if she didn't have enough strength to even try breathing, and it made seokmin's heart break.

he just wanted his mother back home, by his side. he wanted to hear his mother's cheerful voice, and to see her gummy smile that he admired so much. he wanted to talk to her the way he used to; simple conversations were beyond his reach at this point, but it was all that he longed for.

he felt a presence beside him, so he turned around.

"it'll be okay, seokmin."

soonyoung pulled his hands out of his pockets, and wrapped his arms around seokmin. seokmin sobbed into soonyoung's chest, staining his shirt. soonyoung didn't care though, seokmin's happiness was all that mattered to him.

"your mother loves you very much, you know that?" soonyoung soothed, his voice low. "she told me that she wants to-"

"what?" seokmin asked, looking up soonyoung.

"it's a surprise, i can't spoil it!" he replied, his cheeks turning into a bright pink shade.

seokmin nodded, and separated from soonyoung's hug. they headed to the waiting room, knowing that they weren't going to be allowed near her room for a while.

seokmin sat beside soonyoung, watching him play cookie run. well, he tried to do so, but in reality, he was still worrying about his mom. he wanted her to be okay, either way.

the breeze from the night sky worsened, turning into the weather into a full on windy night. the trees swayed vigorously, the sound of the wind screaming whenever it got the chance.

whenever the door opened, the room turned a lot cooler, which made seokmin feel chilly. he was lucky enough to be wearing long sleeves after all.

seokmin wondered what he had done in his past life to deserve all of the pain that he had gone through recently. his mother was in the hospital, and with all of the chaos going on in his life, he had started to lose interest in everything he loved to do.

which included singing.

he thought of the time when he was in kindergarten, and had sang on his way to school, with his mom beside him, holding his hand firmly.

"have a good day at school, okay seokmin?" his mother had said, letting go of his hand, and gesturing him to hug her.

"i will!" he cheerfully replied, hugging her tightly. he clearly remembered the way his mother's gummy smile glistened in the summer day, the sun being hidden.

he ran off to catch up with his many friends, and walked to them to his class.

he was brought back into reality once he heard soonyoung let out a cough.

"seokmin.. it's best if we go home."

"okay."

seokmin didn't question soonyoung's opinion, he knew that soonyoung wanted the best for him. after all, they'd been best friends since they were babies.

they went into soonyoung's car, and sat down, turning the radio on. the volume was low, but the absence of their voices made the tension increase.

soonyoung could feel seokmin's pain just by taking a simple glance at him. his face showed pure defeat, as if the world had gone completely against him. in fact, life had been taken everything away from him.

seokmin felt soonyoung's eyes on him. he could feel the sympathy that soonyoung felt for him. he felt bad; he'd been dragging soonyoung everywhere around just because of everything that was going on. soonyoung had his own family that he could have been around with instead of being with him.

"i'm sorry."

soonyoung turned towards seokmin, and rested his head on his shoulders. "it's okay, i enjoy your company. i'll do anything for you."

seokmin's eyes fluttered, and let out a yawn. his eyes slowly closed, his lips parting. he fell asleep, letting soonyoung to leave his thoughts to himself.

when soonyoung observed seokmin in deep slumber, he felt a huge amount of nostalgia, and a smile crept up on his face.

three words flashed onto his mind.

and with that, he drove back to his house, where seokmin would be staying for the night.
