seokmin couldn't help but feel as if something were wrong with soonyoung. seokmin knew his best friend, and he knew that the body language he was portraying as he talked to others wasn't his true self. something was off, and he wanted to get down to the bottom of it.
he approached soonyoung, peeping around like a curious cat in the middle of the night, and tapped his shoulder. soonyoung turned around to face seokmin, the ends of his lips curved upwards. that is— they were leveled differently.
seokmin blinked repeatedly, his eyelashes fluttering, and flashed an innocent, worried glance at his best friend. "soonie, i think we need to tal—"
"can't you see that i'm busy with someone else, seokmin?" soonyoung snapped at the younger one. "we can talk later, if you want. but right now, i have to clear things up with this person."
seokmin nodded vigorously, similar to an obedient dog, and scampered away, the soles of his shoes sinking into the pavement as he sloshed away from his best friend. the thought of him being bothersome to soonyoung flashes into his mind, and he accepts it as reality. "he has a life too; i can't rely on him solely anymore, even if it's impossible."
he looks down at the ground, small droplets staining the pavement to a darker shade. he continues to slosh around, until—
thump!
"i'm so sorry, please forgive me, i—"
seokmin looks up to see jihoon, who's currently looking at him with widened eyes and a slight frown.
"are you crying, seokmin?"
"i— i thought it was sprinkling; i wasn't aware that i was crying so much. oh dear, i must have looked like such a mess to everyone else and—"
jihoon stands on his tippy toes and gives a small smooch to seokmin's cheek. "cheer up, seokmin. you look adorable as always. c'mon, let's go get you cleaned up."
seokmin nods, and is about to walk behind jihoon when jihoon clears his throat. seokmin can't help but emit a small giggle when he sees jihoon holding out his arm for seokmin to link onto. "thank you jihoonie!"
jihoon just simply nods as a way of acknowledging his words, and takes him to the closest restroom nearby. he opens the door for seokmin as soon as they arrive, and gives him a few tissues for him to wipe his nose.
"what happened?" jihoon asked, his eyebrows furrowing. "i'll fight someone if i have to, i swear."
seokmin's eyes well up with tears, the tear drops on the brink of spilling out of his eyelids. "it's okay, really. it's just that i bothered soonyoung earlier. i always do, and i always have. i don't want to be a bother to my own best friend, but i really annoyed him today and it made me feel a bit sad."
slam!
"soonyoung?!" jihoon's hands slam on the sink. "he's your best friend, yet he treats you like shit? where is he. i swear i'm going to throw hands right now."
"jihoon, you can't fight my best friend," seokmin answered, his voice peeped out. "it was my fault anyways. but um,"
seokmin's face is pointed towards the ground once again, his body rushing with adrenaline. his face is flushed, the tint a bit redder than jihoon has ever seen him. and he had him for P.E. so he knew it wasn't normal.
"yes?"
thump . . .
thump . . .
thump . . .
"you kissed me earlier."
seokmin takes a pause, a shy smile threatening to be spilled.
"and i've never seen you be so protective and emotional over someone before."
"well,"
jihoon gulps, and becomes shy of his actions. he doesn't know what to do, or what to say.
but he doesn't have to worry either way, because it doesn't matter.
it doesn't matter when soonyoung makes his own entrance to the scene that's playing right in front of him.
