Outfitted in my favorite jeans and a tie dye shirt I make my way downstairs. I pass by the dining room and see my mum working on her laptop.
“Bye mum, I’m going dress shopping with Lori. I’ll be back in time for the dinner.”
“Carla, wait.”
I stop at the front door and turn to face her. She walks down the hall and stops in front of me. She holds out her credit card for me to take.
“Get yourself some new heels, my treat.”
I know that she is trying to make up for what happened yesterday. It’s not her fault that Zachary could not come but I can still see the guilt in her face.
“Thank you mum.”
I take the card and put it in my purse. I hear a horn honking outside. I give her a quick kiss on the cheek.
“That’s Lori. I’ll see you later tonight.”
I run outside and hop into Lori’s convertible. She was texting someone while she was waiting for me.
“I managed to get us appointments at the new salon that just opened. We can go there after we get our dresses.”
I am not surprised that she was able to pull a few strings especially since her family is rich.
Lori is a 20 year old natural blond and a petite body. The only thing unordinary about her is her violet eyes. Her hobbies include shopping, talking about boys and fixing cars. She is a girly girl but she also is able to build an engine especially since her family is in the automobile industry.
Zayn and I met her a few summers back when we were at the beach. The two of them hit it off right away. Although Lori and I were not exactly friends at first as she and Zayn continued to date we became closer.
Lori finds a beautiful dress that hangs off of one shoulder. It is the same shade of violet as her eyes and it really brings them out. She has heels at home that match so she helps me find an outfit.
We finally find a dress for me . It hangs off of one shoulder also but it is blue. Our next mission is to find some heels for me to wear. I finally give in to Lori’s demands and let her choose the heels.
We eat lunch after we are finished dress shopping.
“I think that you will like these chip better than that pen.” Lori says as she puts my food down in front of me.
She went to get our food while I found us a table to eat at in the food court. Naturally while I was waiting for her I brought out one of my notebooks but I just couldn’t write so I just chew my pen. I never chew my pens unless I am stressed about something.
“Is something bothering you Carla? You have been distant and quiet all day, usually I can’t get you to shut up.”
I want to tell her the truth but I realize it is not as easy as I thought it would be. I see a look spread on her face as though she just realized something,I have a bad feeling in the pit of my stomach.
“I can be such an idiot sometimes. Of course you are upset about your brother. I am so sorry I know that you were so looking forward to see him”
I completely forgot about Zachary, my mind has been wrapped around Zayn and the kiss. Hr phone rings and she walks away from the table to talk in privacy.
I decide to write a note to Lori to try to tell her what happened. I find writing easier than talking especially since I want to be a writer someday.
I kissed Zayn... are the only words I can seem to write over and over no matter how I try to think of how to to explain it to her. I see Lori hang up her phone and walk back to the table. I rip the paper out of my notebook and crumble it into a ball putting it on my tray of untouched food.
When she gets back to the table I grab my tray and stand up
“Let’s get going. I don’t want us to miss our appointments.”
I walk by her and throw my uneaten food and the paper in the rubbish bin. I am hoping that throwing away the paper will help me feel better.
