Chapter Seventeen- Revelations

August 5th 3012, 6:47am

“So let me get this straight,” Brantley said, “No one has any clue who the president is?”  He asked for what seemed like the one-hundredth time.

“Brantley she doesn’t have all day, so can we please move on?”  Claire asked impatiently.

“Drink your tea, Claire.”  Leah chided her.

“I’ve never seen him, or heard of him.  I didn’t remember him until Claire brought him up.”  I clarified for them.

“I don’t see how this helps us.”  Ian said once again.  “We were against the government before, and we’re against them now, so what?”

“Ian, just let her finish explaining.”  Olivia chided her husband.

“No, I’m with Ian on this.”  Rayleigh stated.  “Why should we sit here and let this void waste our time?”

“Crap.”  Claire stated suddenly.  We all turned and looked at the small girl with a blanket around her and a small cup of herbal tea in her hands.  “It burned me.”  She explained.  All at once we turned our attention away from Claire and back onto each other.

“How do you know it’s a waste of our time if you don’t let her finish?”  Olivia asked Rayleigh.

“She’s a void therefore everything she says is a waste of time.”  Rayleigh bit back.

“Don’t you think she deserves a chance?”  Leah asked.

This had been going on for almost twenty minutes and all I had managed to do was explain the relationship between voids and the government.  We might gain some ground if I wasn’t interrupted every minute by some pointless argument.  I bent down to Claire who was sipping on her piping hot tea that was supposed to soothe her cough.

“What time did you give me the pill?”  I asked her.

“About six.”  She answered after sniffling a bit.  She looked over at the battery operated clock on Brantley’s desk.  “You’ve got a little less than fifteen minutes.”

“Would you mind?”  I asked Claire sweetly.  She rolled her eyes and looked at the group of arguing adults.

“Hey!”  She yelled in a rugged voice.  “Danny here has about fifteen minutes before she’s back to being a void, so how about we let her say what she has to say?”  Claire asked in a voice that dared them to say something worthy of ticking her off.

“Thanks.”  I whispered to her.

“No problem.”  She said and took a sip of her tea, muttering under her breath something along the lines of ‘grown tail adults, acting like children, making me yell when I’m sick.’

“If we can figure out why the president is keeping himself hidden them maybe we can figure out why he cell was created.”  I explained.

“You don’t know why it was created?”  Brantley asked.

I could practically see Claire slapping her palm against her forehead.  They were justified in asking so many questions.  I had been distant lately and suddenly I was coming forth with all new information as to my life as a void.  I was giving them a new perspective to the whole revolution.  Claire was just impatient because she was sick and she was lashing out on whoever was around and even the slightest bit annoying.
