Lazarus
Three Weeks Later.....
"Proooom Is Almost Here!!" Mariah exclaimed spinning around the empty dressing room. Prom was in the last week of September which was two weeks away and this girl was bursting with excitement.
Mariah continued rambling on about prom while looking at the dresses she had picked out as I texted Luna.
"Laz are you even paying attention?"
I looked up to see Mariahs face flush with annoyance.
"Oh um, what were you saying?"
Her face softened as she took a seat next to me.
"I wanted to know if you wanted to go to Prom with me?" A small smile sat upon her beautiful face as her eyes glistened.
I wasn't really the type to go to prom.. I went My Sophomore year and I really didn't like it, plus Luna and I had other plans that we were currently texting about.
But I didn't wanna hurt Mariah's feelings telling her I was ditching her for another girl. I had to make up a lie.
"Sorry Riah, I would go if I could but.. I um.. I have things I have to do so I wouldn't be able to go to prom."
Her smile slowly faded and was replaced with an air of disappointment.
I immediately dropped her stare before feeling too bad.
"I'm sorry!" I said as she got up.
"It's okay.." Her voice was filled with sadness.
Fuck man....

"I broke my best friend's heart for you." I pointed to Luna as I narrowed my eyes at her playfully. We were sitting outside of McDonald's, finishing our food.
"She asked me to go to Prom with her but I told her that I had things to do"
She let out a chuckle. "She'll be okay."
"No she won't" I whined.
"Whoever she is ... I'm pretty sure she can find another date."
I nodded. Mariah was very beautiful, I knew she wouldn't have a problem getting a date.
That's when it hit me...
Out of all the people in the school, she chose ME to ask to Prom. Why though?
She wanted to go to prom with a weird, quiet, weird looking guy when there's jocks and everything else.
Mariah deserved to be with someone better than me.
"Laz you okay?" Luna spoke snapping me out of my thoughts.
"Oh... yeah I'm fine."
"Ya sure?"
"Yes Luna, I'm sure"
"Okay. Well let's go get some snacks" She grabbed my hand standing up from the bench table and pulled me across the street to Walmart.
After paying for our snacks, we walked out of Wally World.
I glanced down at Luna's small bag filled with just a Mountain Dew and some chips.
