Chapter 36

Alisha’s P.O.V

“It’s not what it looks like,” I pleaded. I wracked through my mind looking for some reasonable explanation that didn’t result in our death. “I had no idea I had that. Someone must have slipped it into my pocket.”

Seth crushed the phone in his hand and the tiny dust-like particles dropped to the ground. I swallowed loudly trying to think of something else because that definitely wasn’t good enough. Seth still looked so angry; it looked like his face was going to explode.

Please get here soon, Hayley. Save me!

Seth grabbed my shoulder and my whole body was squashed into the wall. I let out a groan of pain and bit my lip to stop the scream. I took a few breaths trying to calm myself down. Anthony looked pained; he wanted to interfere but that would probably result in a lot of people’s deaths. Maybe Seth will come to his senses and stop before a war breaks out in his own pack.

“Tell me the real reason you brought the phone?” he snarled. “Was it so you could call the police? So you could save everyone from the wrath of me?”

“No, no. I would never call the authorities. It would rip everyone apart.” I was rambling trying to get something worth talking about out of my mouth. “I would never do that. I love it here, I love Anthony and I love the Blue Tribe.”

He growled in my face making me flinch. “Then why did you commit treason?”

“I didn’t commit treason. I didn’t want anyone to get hurt; I just wanted everything to be back to the way it used to be.” I froze at my choice of words. Shit. Don’t worry, he probably never get it.

“The way it used to be?” he said catching on. SHIT!! “What do you mean the way it used to be?”

“I just wanted you to be happy again,” I spoke softly. “I just wanted everyone to feel happy.”

“By putting the whole Tribe in danger... By putting our species in danger!” he tightened his grip on my shoulder and I let out a cry. All of a sudden he was off me and I was gasping. Tears threatened to spill from my eyes and I tried to clear the film so I could see. I wiped them away and saw the two forms wrestling on the floor.

Anthony snarled on top of Seth. A powerful punch connected with Seth’s cheek and everyone winced at the noise. Seth threw Anthony off him and kicked his stomach sending him flying into the wall beside me. I immediately rushed to his side and pulled him to his feet.

“Oh my God, are you okay?”

“Stay out of the way, I don’t want you hurt.” Anthony’s eyes narrowed and he cracked his neck. He started at Seth again but I jumped in between them.

“Just hold on a God damned second!” I shouted at them both. “Stop fighting. Isn’t the whole reason we are doing this so a fight can be stopped.” I directed those words at Anthony in particular. He got the hint and dropped his fists. “Stop fighting.”

From the corner of my eye I saw Seth relax his arms but he still held a furious face. Just the fact that we fought back was enough to get him started on another topic. We’re still in deep trouble. I dropped my outstretched hands and moved beside Anthony. I still didn’t trust Seth, who would with that menacing expression on his face?

Lee ran into the area huffing like a maniac, his eyes wild and frightened. He pointed behind him and let out a few gasps grabbing everyone’s attention now.

“Approaching...vehicle...” he spluttered before leaning up against the wall. I think he was having a major anxiety attack but we ignored him as we all piled out of the cave.
