Worlds Apart

Chapter Ten

"Neil..." Di was speechless as she looked at her boyfriend. It seemed as if she was looking at a totally different person. Her Neil always had either a smile or a smirk on his face and his eyes always had a twinkle in them, but the man who looked back at her was different. Di debated whether to retreat or continue inside, her heart beat rapidly when she came closer and continued to search Neil's eyes, then she saw pain. She didn't need another encouragement as she rushed and sat in his lap burrying her head in his neck.

Neil breathed the comforting scent of this woman, his world and his everything. He knew she was all he needed but he hadn't wanted to call her over. He continued to hurry his head in her bossom and sighed letting himself relax.

"Baby, what's wrong?" Diana's voice penetrated in his thoughts.

"Thank you for looking for me." He lifted his head to look at her. Diana saw that his eyes had changed but now they held sadness.

"I'm here if you want to talk." She said as she caressed his jaw.

"I know." He said and kissed her lips lightly. "I needed you."
Diana frowned, " You should have called me you know."

"I know, but I didn't know how to go about it, but now that you are here, it's all okay." He burried his head back.

"Have you eaten?" Di suddenly asked and Neil shook his head, "Okay then, I'll go fix us something." She wanted to give Neil time but as she made to get up, he pulled her more to him, "Neil I....Neil what are you doing?" He was carrying her in his arms and walking towards the kitchen.

"I still need to be near you." Neil murmured in her neck and she shivered, she didn't complain when he put her on the counter and stood between her legs. "Sit still, I'll cook." He didn't give her time to complain, he kissed her deeply and went around the kitchen preparing.

Once or twice he would sneak peeks at her and smile or he would steal kisses and leave her speechless. By the time lunch was ready, Di noticed that Neil had returned to his normal self. They sat at the kitchen table and ate.

"Hmm, yummy." Di said and she chewed on the chicken steak.

"You can give me a kiss for that you know.' Neil teased.

"Na uh, you've already stolen enough kisses." She said and laughed when Neil pouted.

A comfortable silence fell between them as they ate. After they got up to wash the plates in the same silence.

"Today is when my dad died." Neil said suddenly. If Di wasn't concentrated, she wouldn't have heard him. She turned to look at him and suddenly wrapped her hands around his waist.

"I'm sorry." she murmured in his shirt, "Is there anything I can do?" she asked looking at him.

"Just lay down with me awhile." He led her to a couch and they laid in each others arms silently. One hour passed and they were in the same position.

"Phe's in love." Di said quietly hoping Neil hadn't slept off.

"What," Neil looked at Di, "She told you that?" Di nodded, "And who might the lucky guy be?"

"She told me he doesn't know her yet but he is on his way to ask her to be his girlfriend." Neil burst out laughing and Di frowned, "I'm glad I could make you laugh. How do I deal with this Neil?" Di asked.

"Don't worry hun, Phes just seven, she'll be fine."

"That reminds me, I'll ask Betty to pick her from school and drop her here." Di said and Neil shuddered.

"That woman gives me the creeps." Neil said receiving a severe look from Diana.

"Betty's a nice woman Neil, though she's a single mum..."
