Dear Journal,

How fitting that I am starting a  journal this week of all weeks... More on that in a moment.

This is a very a special journal. My brother, Cody, gifted me this for my 16th birthday. It is a journal that my mother started right before having me. The few pages before this entry are her words. He gave it to me in hopes that I would want to give this journal its life back, and finish it out.

Her few entries are the most special pieces of her I have now, talking about her current life while she was 6 months pregnant with me and Cody was turning 5 years old. She wrote about how much she loved my father, how grateful she was to have Cody, and me on the way. I will start out by scribing everything that I can possibly think of in my life right now. As I continue these new pages, my hope is for it to be the start of her legacy.

I am currently 16, about 5'6 tall, have her long & wavy strawberry blonde hair that I rarely put up, dad's teal blue-green eyes and dark eyebrows, and no shortage of mom's freckles. I love wearing long flowy dresses many days, but most days I go for a stylish jean or linen trousers outfit for comfort. I love to feel natural and feminine but without makeup. I have always been very soft spoken and that hasn't changed yet. I have always had friends but enjoy alone time just as much. I spend most of my free time reading, sketching, and walking.

My family is currently moving from France to the UK; ironically, where I am originally from. My adoptive parents, Dana and Angus Fraller, are very rich; Ungodly, disgustingly rich, actually. They aren't around much because they are always working, so my brother and I have always enjoyed each other's company growing up. Cody, has been the only father figure to me in my adolescences. Being 5 years older, he remembers our late parents better than I ever would and is always telling me treasured memories he has of them.

I was just barely 2 years old when they were murdered by the Dark Lord and one of his followers. Their names were Ferra Walker and Jack Levine. After their deaths, we were moved from foster family to foster family for about 4 years. Dana and Angus came out of nowhere claiming us one day. Cody and I hoped that since they were distant family they would know lots about our parents but they never bothered to share much with us. Just that Dana is a distant cousin of my mother's and they barely knew them. From what little I know from Cody and this journal, our family was very happy before they passed.

I cry myself to sleep mourning the loss of that love they had for us. Most days, I wonder why our adoptive parents took us in the first place. Most of my time at home is neglect— I don't exist. When I did receive attention it was hard and cold. Sometimes it was physical abuse. Cody and I detest their views on muggleborn versus pureblood but learned to keep our moths shut in the house with them because the alternative led to us getting beaten and in bed for days recovering. They never cared to check on us when we were sick. It was always Cody and I taking care of each other. Sometimes I wonder if they just took us in as a charity case to protect our pure-blood lineage name of Levine from falling into the "hands of blood traitors or muggleborns".

This move was all spurred from Angus accepting a position in the British Ministry's Department of International Magical Relations as head of the French Relations in London. Cody has been in London for the last two years now, working in their Department of Mysteries in the Prophecies Sector. For the first time in our lives with them, Angus and Dana are taking us on holiday with them. The first annual Wizarding Family Camp is being held today through the 14th of August at Evergreen Lodge in Isle of Skye, Scotland.

I don't mind moving to the UK much; Cody and I became used to adjusting and relocating to new homes. But needing to adjust to a whole new school in my sixth year makes me feel unsettled. Luckily, Theodore Nott is my cousin, distant through our adoptive family, but he has always been Cody and I's friend since the day we met him. He goes to Hogwarts, same year as me.

Theo's family invited us to come to Evergreen Lodge at the beginning of the Summer. From what Theo described, it seems to be a larger gathering of witches and wizard families across the UK at a campground that has been warded from muggle visitors for one week. I read in a newspaper that is the Ministry's fair attempt at bringing the wizarding community together in tougher times.

I never imagined Dana and Angus would accept the offer but they did, claiming it would be a good way for me to meet some Hogwarts Students before starting term. I agreed, hiding my shock that they actually were thinking about me and were joining us as a family. But, nonetheless, it makes me feel slightly more relieved that maybe I can make a friend or two before school starts. We leaving in a few minutes now...

Until next time,
Autumn Levine"
