Dustin smiles lightly as he leads me down the street, his hand gripped tightly in mine. It's a beautiful day out, warm weather with no clouds in the sky and the sun shining brightly over our heads. We're basically jogging to where ever Dustin wants us to go, and I can't help giggling as he begins to pant.
"You okay there D?" I giggle and he squeezes my hand and mumbles something incoherent as a response. I look around the street, not really caring about the few looks we're getting from anyone who's on the street.
I look down and laugh again, Dustin's still in his pyjama bottoms and I'm in a ratty old pair of jeans. We must look like the strangest due on earth, me basically walking behind Dustin who's trying to jog with our clothing and messed up hair, but I don't even care anymore. Dustin's happy so I'm happy.
Eventually, Dustin pulls to a stop in front of two houses. I look around as he catches his breath and notice the familiar dirt road winding through the field towards the group of trees that was the park. I feel my face whiten slightly as I look from the path back to Dustin. I have very mixed feelings about this place, and it makes me kind of uncomfortable that Dustin brought us here.
After catching his breath, Dustin turns and looks at me. I don't know if he can read my mind or just sees the doubt in my eyes, but he offers me a reassuring smile and grabs my hands again "I know that you probably don't like it here, but this is my favourite place in the whole world. And I want it to be like that for you too. Do you think we could both erase all the bad memories from here and replace them with better ones?" he asks.
I sigh, looking at the ground, and Dustin stiffens, but I look up at him giving him a playful grin. I nod and squeeze his hands "Yeah. I think I can do that."
Dustin beams and pulls me down the path. While we're walking, I scoop him up and throw him over my shoulder. He squeals as I spin on the spot, laughing at his unsuccessful attempts at 'freedom'. I set him down and he sways slightly on the spot, then aims his fist at an attempt to punch me. I dodge it easily and take a few steps back. He roars playfully and chases after me.
He chases me all the way to the park, neither of us stopping to look at our surroundings with the blossoming flowers and green plants. Once in the park, I run through a small flock of birds and stop when I hear Dustin yell as they all fly towards him. Big mistake.
Before I can even turn around, Dustin's tackled me to the ground, taking advantage of me stopping. He doesn't hit me that hard, so our fall to the ground isn't that painful, but he's got me pinned underneath him. He laughs as I sigh in defeat.
"You know, I've really missed your laugh. Your real laugh, the one that I can make you do." I tell him as I roll over so we're facing each other. He smiles and blushes.
"Get up you loser." he giggles and climbs off of me, brushing some of his curls behind his ear.
I smirk and stand up with him. He smiles and offers me his hand, which I take, and we walk over to the middle of the park in the middle of the suns rays. The wind blows slightly through our hair and Dustin blushes. We stand so we're facing one another, looking into the other's eyes.
"This feels like a cheesy romance movie." I whisper and Dustin lightly punches my arm.
"Don't ruin the moment." he chuckles.
"I'm not ruining the moment." I say and pull him close to me, placing my hands on his hips "Ruining the moment would be talking about someone else. Want me to do that?"
"No, of course not you dummy!" he squeaks.
"Don't worry, I wouldn't." I whisper and press our foreheads together.
Dustin looks a little nervous, or maybe he just doesn't know what to do. He hasn't stopped smiling though.
"Don't be afraid." I tell him.
"I'm not, I just don't really know what to do. I've never done this before." he mumbles back.
"Just do what feels like the right thing to do."
"Yeah?"
"Yeah."
"Well..." he wraps his arms around the back of my neck "This feels right."
"Cheesy."
"Shut up!" he bites his lip "What do you think is right Mr. Expert?"
"I never said I was an expert."
"You're making it sound like it."
I scoff "Well, what feels right... is to tell you how much I care about you."
"Yes...?"
I pull him even closer to me (if that's even possible) and our noses touch. "I love you. I love you more than anyone in this entire world, and I will do anything you want me to. I love you so much, and I'm always going to be here for you. We're never going to be alone, we'll always have each other." my eyes make their way to his lips then back to his eyes "And I really want to kiss you."
"That makes two of us."
There's silence as we look into each other eyes, as our face inch closer and closer until... his lips are on mine.
And it's perfect.
