He was right outside his hiding place, screaming strings of swears and madly swinging his knife around. Levi could hear it, hear him plunging his silly little knife into those he had something in common with; being a vampire. He didn't care to peek out or too call out his name to tell him what he was getting himself into was dangerous. He was going to listen this time. He wasn't going to approach him like he used to. Levi decided he was going to leave him alone for good. It was the best for the both of them. Eren would slowly get back into his somewhat normal life, and Levi would go back to what he used to do.

Because perhaps it was supposed to be that way.

From the very beginning, it would have been better if he stayed away.

---

He didn't realize how lonely he was until he sat down and thought about everything that had happened to him.

There was no one he could turn to and talk to. Mikasa and Armin were no longer on earth, and he felt like he couldn't speak. He couldn't discuss any personal feelings to just anyone. He had friends back at camp, but they were people Eren wouldn't spill his tears in front of or show the fragile and sensitive side of him. There was no one he would look forward to seeing whenever he came back from the camp, or when it was a holiday. He had no one.

There he stood with piles of dead bodies at his feet, wondering what had gone wrong. Was there something he could have done to save the both of them? If only he decided not to choose Mikasa's fate himself, or kept an eye on Armin, things would have ended differently if not tragically. He didn't move a muscle as he stared down at the chaotic carnage he created. He came down here for a taste of vengeance, but what would killing a mob of monsters do? He already killed Armin's killers, and Armin was long gone. It wasn't going to change anything. Armin was dead, and going back in time as impossible.

He balled his hands into fists as his lower lip quivered. Eren was empty and dry. He was a vase that held no flowers, a dead flower, a sad boy. The bizarre part was, he didn't feel exactly sad, just numb and cold as if he was walking through the forest in the winter time, walking forever into the endless stretch of dirt path and into the unknown. It was like he was no longer controlling what he did or felt, his brain commanded him, keeping him alive with each beat of his hurting heart. They were orders and not something he would do without thinking no longer. He noticed while on his killing spree, there were moments when he forgot how to breath and he would so light headed.

Inhale.

Exhale.

Continue going.

His head twitched to the side, sensing someone- or something, was near.

---

Petra forgave him the moment he walked in.

Her red eyes locked on him, and her lips curled into a menacing smile.

"I knew you would come back."

She sat on a tall and thick stone chair, but to Levi it looked more like a throne from hell. They were in a grotto and he didn't like it at all, but it was beautiful; the water's shade of blue reminded him of sapphires and aquamarine gems. It was dim, but the torch light made the water sparkle beautifully and it reflected on the faces of everyone there. The giant rocks were rough, bumpy and sharp looking. They appeared ancient, even. The water was clear, and he could see the growing algae on the stones under it. The whole grotto gave a eerie and dreadful feel to all of them.

Levi snickered coldly and grinned. "Hmmm. You always get what you want in the end anyways."

She smiled cheerfully at him and he recalled the times from long ago where she would show him the exact same smile; bright and charming. This one was different. It wasn't from the cute and friendly Petra who was once his wife, but the evil and threatening one. She wasn't the beautiful and magnificent woman he once fell in love with years ago. It was as if someone snatched her soul away and replaced her.
