His dream portrayed that miserable and memorable day like it happened the day before.

It like was like watching all of his past memories play before his very eyes. He saw himself running through the large and spacious area in the forest that consisted of tall grass and weeds with his adoptive sister Mikasa and his best friend Armin. The sun was hiding behind the thin clouds and the grass waved and danced in the air. It smelled too much like rosy musk and honey, but Eren didn't find it distasteful at all.

While he and Mikasa were plucking flowers from their stems and bushes, Armin said he was going back to Eren's house to find a book to read. Their playful days had always went on like that, but things were so utterly peaceful and exciting. They only knew vampires in fairy tales and danger only existed when they approached it.

Armin ran back with a bloody book clutched in his arms and let out a blood curling scream. His eyes were flaming red, and he was paler than a ghost. This isn't what happened, Eren thought. He turned to see Mikasa looking the same as Armin, except she smiled and revealed all her razor sharp teeth. Her small child body looked awfully wrong with the blood and macabre, but she also looked like she was meant to look that way.

When Eren lifted his hand, Mikasa's head turned all the way around, a visible red line appearing on her neck while it moved. When it stopped all movement, her head plopped onto the forest floor with a squishing sound. Her eyes were looking up at Eren, and her teeth were still formed into that perfect but horrific grin. The ground was no longer earth, but white marble. Armin was no longer beside him, but he could see his parents from a distance. They were both on the floor, his father's round glasses knocked to the marble and his mother's head twisted in an unnatural angle. Both their faces were facing the floor and there was too much red.

Eren hated the colour red.

A pool of it was leaking from their limp and frozen bodies. Eren tried running away from them, but there was no end and he was just running in place endlessly. The smell of rust and salt burned his nostrils until he suffocated on it. He could feel slimy, cold hands wrap around his ankles and hear voices mumbling and chanting his name over and over again.

"Eren."

"Erennnnnnnn."

He hated being reminded of the past. He didn't wish to see his parents die again, and wanted to scream until his lungs failed him. Eren thought that perhaps the world hated him and that the heavens above wanted to torture him slowly by killing off his loved ones one by one. He didn't look back, but he knew it were his parents that pulled and tugged at his legs; they soon dragged him into an eternal pit of darkness, making him plunge and tumble through the empty space of nothing.

He woke up with a start and screamed until he was breathless. His heart hammered noisily inside his drenched chest as he gulped large amounts of air like his life depended on it.

"Can you shut up?"

He almost fell out of a tree when he noticed that Levi was holding him.

"Don't touch me, you dreadful twit," Eren shouted.

"You want me to drop you? Okay, if that's what you want."

He let go of Eren without pausing, and he found himself hurling towards the ground, falling like he did in his horrid nightmare. His throat was too dry to yell, and his body was too tired to move at all. The air hit his face and body and the rain stung his skin, it was unnaturally cold than usual. He hugged himself and felt the tears fly from his sore eyes.

"Just kidding. I love you too much to legitimately let you fall," Levi admitted and caught Eren just when he was a few feet above ground.

The vampire's hair was wet and had beads of droplets rolling down the black strands of his head. The rain looked like a thousand tiny crystals against his skin, the only time Eren ever found him beautiful since the first time they encountered one another. How was it possible for someone to look so perfect and stunning even when in the rain?
