"Hey, Levi-"

Eren slapped a hand over his mouth.

He woke up from deep slumber and his first thought was too greet Levi. It had been almost a month, and he still carried the habit with him.

He sat up and looked around him. He found himself curled up on the forest floor with his thick and torn cloak thrown over him like a quilt. The air around him was cold, but he woke up feeling warm and with beads of sweat forming on his temples. He had long forgotten the comfort of a real bed, and for someone to greet him good morning. He stood there for a while as he inhaled the pine smelling breeze and closed his eyes peacefully. He couldn't remember much, but he knew he was heading somewhere. He guessed he must have fainted on his way there.

Eren stood up, and a pulsing headache immediately rushed to his head in less than a second. He winced as he stumbled to regain his balance and pressed a hand to his forehead. He grit his teeth and leaned against a tree for a few moments before looking up. The forest was filled with fog, but clear enough to see where he was going. The tall towering trees were like shadows and the mist seemed to dance around him. The soles of his feet still hurt a ton, but it was much better than before. Even so, he didn't want to walk. He limped around the rocks and tree stubs until he reached a clearing. The sun shined through the light veil of clouds and illuminated the dew drops on the blades of grass.

He could hear noises around him, like birds and squirrels, and felt lucky and thankful that he decided to bring his bow with him.

He ended up scoring himself a rabbit, which was a lot better than he hoped for. He took big bites out of it, hardly taking the time to chew and almost choking a few times. He drooled as his teeth sunk into the meat. It didn't cook well since he was using a small fire, but he didn't care at all. It was luxury now that he had experienced hunger, and felt lucky to come across good game.

Now that he thought about it, while he was still with Levi, he had forgotten to give him some of his blood sometimes. Maybe he was starving too, but it wasn't like Eren cared or anything. He was somewhat relieved that he was gone, because he didn't have to worry about being caught with a vampire, or having to feed him.

His teeth tore into the tender meat as a single tear rolled down his cheek without him noticing. He was sorry to admit that he missed him, but he didn't realize it.

Not yet.

It was a beautiful day; rainy, dark and cold. At least, it was a nice day to Levi. The sun was irritating.

He left the grotto and decided to go for a walk. He was still thirsty and was frustrated that he couldn't find anything pleasant to drink, and was considering giving up. If he died, he wouldn't mind. He already lost Eren and made him hate him (well, he hated him from the very beginning, but now he hated him even more) so there was no purpose anymore. He hoped Eren was okay and that he was getting enough rest and eating properly now that he wasn't in the way.

He was walking leisurely down the pavement paths of town. The scent of bread and burning meat entered his nose, he could hear humans chatting politely to one another and their steady breathing. It was any other day at town, except the people were a lot more quiet as if suspecting something. Levi knew that they were thinking of the recent attacks. They were all alert and cautious, but what would they do if a vampire were to attack? They couldn't run or hide, they always found their way to them. In this world, there was no such thing as hiding. You had to endure it all.

Levi covered his nose with his hands to avoid smelling anything. To his surprise, there were a few humans who would taste good, but he didn't want to risk losing control. He could smell it all; the scent of rose and lavender of a rich, fair lady, the grass, and the dirt under someone's shoes. Through it all, he could still smell their blood despite hiding his nostrils. It was a strong and powerful scent that seemed to hit him like a brick, the blood of a child.
