A sharp feeling buried itself into Eren's heart, puncturing deep and hard with emotions of sadness but relief all at once. He understood why they would need to kick him out, but he was also terrified at the thought that he would need to leave his one and only true home. This town was the place where he was born, faced many challenging tasks and fought hard to survive. He was a rather sympathetic person  when it came to memories, and now he would need to leave them all behind to be with the one he loved the most. He didn't mind, but he knew he was going to be hurt mentally.

He was going to have to abandon a huge part of him, but he was willing to give it up for Levi's sake.

The both of them left shortly after their short but informative chat with Hanji. Eren was slightly shaking as they left the camp grounds. He wanted to trust Levi when he told him that he would take him somewhere safe but he was aware that it wouldn't be completely safe with Petra lurking around and all. He felt more vulnerable now that Hanji explained that Petra had basically thrown a tantrum because she wanted to drink Eren's blood but was not able to track him down. He was surprised that she was easily fooled when Levi had managed to drive her away from Eren's smell using his own. She probably got more clever over the years, Eren thought to himself.

She was going to find him again. He was sure of it.

Knowing that Petra wanted to murder him reminded him of one thing; she could no longer use anyone else to hurt in order to get him. If Armin and Mikasa were still alive, he felt certain that she would have tortured them to lure him in. Eren was positive that she wouldn't hurt Levi in any brutal way. After all, they were once lovers. She went as far as to give him a new life by biting him then leaving his side, but Eren doubted she would ever kill him.

But just because there was no one else to worry about didn't mean he wasn't scarred emotionally. All these fatalities of the ones he loved most really brought all his scary feelings up to the surface. Levi was able to patch him up, but he didn't fix him.

Eren held on to his hand subconsciously.

"How are you feeling?" Levi asked him, sensing the mood shift in the atmosphere around them. He was being careful with his words. He chose not to ask 'are you okay?' because he knew his lover was far from that.

"I don't know, really. I'm just... Thinking of things."

"Eren, you shouldn't worry about useless things, if that's what you're thinking about. You can trust me to make things better. I'll make it better for you, for us."

"And I know that," Eren replied sternly. "You don't need to keep reassuring me. It's as if you're... doubting me."

"You know I'm not doubting you. Don't pick fights with me. I just wanted to let you know."

"I'm not picking a fight. I just feel like whenever you try to reassure me like that, it's like you know something bad is going to happen to us. Humans often use lies to do calm people down."

"Yes that's correct, but I'm not human. I'm aware I've caused many horrible things to happen to you, but I won't let that happen again."

The boy paused before parting his lips to speak again.

"How can you sound so sure?"

Levi immediately froze in his tracks and released Eren's hand so that he could grab his shoulders and force him to look him in the eyes instead.

"Because I've never been so sure in my entire life until I met you."

Eren didn't answer right away. More like, he was too stunned to speak any words at all. The sincerity and passion in his voice was ridiculously overwhelming, and he didn't know what to say.
