Surprisingly, it had been a rather quiet night despite the death and violence that was triggered during the day. Eren found that it was always quiet after such an ordeal occurred; no whimpering or crying of sorrow from the deaths witnessed, because soldiers were not supposed to show any signs of weakness. Before Erwin had taken control over the army, Eren remembered hearing that soldiers were like brainless robots who were sent off to train, fight and then die if they did bit survive, and repeat. Although Eren found Erwin to be quite the shady and suspicious type of man, he agreed with most of his morals. 'If you're going to end up dying, at least do it with a reason or purpose. You don't want to be remembered for dying, but for what you had done.'
Eren found himself in the first aid tent without meaning to go there. His feet had dragged him there as if trying to tell him something. Much to his realization, he found that a couple of his good friends had passed away. In the back where no lanterns or candles shown light were the unmoving lumps and empty shells of people who had been alive just hours before. The bloodied clothes and strewn needles across the bedside tables showed effort in trying to keep them alive until further help arrive, but Eren could see that they did not succeed. The bodies were covered in thin blankets, and then jackets the further he traveled down the aisles of cadavers, indicating that there been much more bodies than they were expecting that the supply of thin blankets had run out. The blankets and jackets covered their faces, or their gruesome wounds.
A number of them had their necks covered, probably because vampires favoured beheading as a suitable way of killing. Eren was surprised that they were able to retrieve most of the heads. Some of the bodies had their whole head, of where they would have been, covered and Eren knew why. Above the beds were scribbled notes with their names, age, measurements, time of death and how they died. Eren squinted to read one that belonged to Connie, his abdomen covered with the blood drenched jacket he once wore. He had died from being disembowelled, a cruel way to die even if he was annoying. He did not deserve this, Eren thought. No one did.
Next to him was Sasha, who had one leg and arm ferociously torn off. Eren could smell the blood was still continued to slowly drip from her shoulder and thigh. Her jacket was placed across her chest. On the crudely written paper above her it read that she died from blood loss. There was no possibly way she was going to survive and Eren felt as if he could have stopped this. He continued to walk from there and spotted Krista's petite frame of a body with a blanket thrown over it with blood leaking heavily from multiple areas that Eren did want to bother reading how she died. In front of her was an empty bed, or what Eren thought was empty until he approached it. Sitting atop a jacket was a single bruised and beaten arm, elbow and everything. Specks of purple and yellow were beginning to blossom like flowers in a grotesque garden. Through the paper Eren discovered that it had belonged to Ymir. In quick and messy handwriting it explained that as Krista was dying she refused to calm down until she saw Ymir, and the arm was what they brought back. They were able to identify it through the many scars and moles upon her bicep.
Although becoming a vampire had made him less emotional, he felt sick to the core. He turned to run out of the tent, feeling his stomach churn and his throat wanting to vomit contents that were not present, he was only going to release bile. The cold air slapped him across the face and his insides twisted with anger. Even though he was much stronger compared to when he was human, he was not strong enough to save his friends. He was not enough.
Hurling himself down to the ground, he threw up. Acid burned his throat and set his mouth aflame as it dribbled from his lips and down his chin.
"Eren? Eren! What's the matter?" Levi shouted from behind him and immediately was at his side before he could even answer.
"'m not feeling so good, is all," he replied with a huff.
"And why is that?"
"The... tent. I saw my... friends," Eren answered, trying to catch a breath that would not come for him.
