A/N: I've been writing almost every day to bring you this [insert fancy British accent here] masterpiece LOL. LITTLE WARNING: stay attentive while reading this because my POV's are on some serious crack and switch very frequently.

The next couple of days went by in a hectic whirl of preparations and strategizing. Despite never witnessing Samael's power firsthand, Iris had a feeling he was much more powerful than he appeared. After all, not many lived to tell the tale of an encounter with the warlock and he proved he could hold his own against Zairian. If those weren't clear indicators of his competence then she didn't know what were.
Iris tugged her magenta dress. It clung to her figure in the most becoming way, fanning out in tiered ruffles at her hips before stopping above her knees. Her shimmering black locks laid in loose curls down her shoulders and the pumps she wore did wonders for both her dress and legs.
In truth, none of it mattered. The Fall Formal was a pretense to bait Samael and kill him. That was what all this really was and she had no illusions. Everyone knew what tasks they were expected to complete.
-WHERE ARE YOU?
The text was from Mae and it made Iris grow more agitated. However, not with Mae, with Zander. She began tapping her foot peevishly as she waited in her living room. It was just past eight and everyone was either on their way or already at the Fall Formal.
-I'm on my way. Sheesh, CALM YOUR ALL CAPS DOWN.
Despite the lightheartedness of her response, Iris felt nothing but annoyance. What was taking Zander so long? At the same time the thought crossed her mind, there was a rapping at the door. She rose to answer it.
"My, don't you look spectacular." He drawled, leaning against the frame.
"You're late."
"Car trouble."
"Doesn't look like it." She looked at the flashy, silver Beemer.
"Past tense," Zander smiled back easily, "so of course not."
He's lying.
The thought came without difficulty. She felt it in the slight strain of his words. Iris wanted to push the subject but decided there wasn't time for that. She needed to be at the dance now.
"Let's just get going." Iris pulled the door shut behind her on her way out. She didn't wait for Zander as she trudged up the walkway and out the gate. Reaching the BMW, she found it locked so she turned back.
It was startling to find Zander so close and without warning. He reached around her to open her door. Unnerved, Iris clambered in and avoided meeting those keen eyes of his. He strolled around and climbed in next to her.
"Years from now, you'll think back on this day as the beginning of our epic love story." Zander beamed at her.
Iris rolled her eyes.
Valentine stood with Annabelle and the rest of the group. His eyes did a hasty but efficient sweep of the gymnasium. The only things in sight were other teens dancing and congregating. Nothing was out of place so his nerves were, to a certain extent, settled over the fact Samael hadn't decided to be prompt but it made him restless that he had yet to see either Sky or Iris. Even Leo was here. The cover story was that he was Sue's date.
