Scarlet sat in the throne, head held high, eyes piercing hatred into the new recruit. A Fire! Despicable creature... but her power is useful to me. She was ruler of the Rocks, a more superior, intelligent, and overall better species. They didn't need Fires, but they were useful, useful indeed. If you could keep them contained. She wasn't stupid, she knew what they were capable of, and this was a risk.

To have a powerful Fire on her side would be excellent. But, the more powerful they are, the harder they are to keep contained. Scowling, Scarlet waited for the miserable creature to speak. The silence continued. She sighed. "I suspect you are waiting for me to speak." Her voice rang through the empty throne room. The Fire glared at Scarlet and fought against her bonds. Scarlet laughed at the attempt. "It appears to me that you are stuck. Do you know why you are here?" A pause. "No? Well, it's because you are going to help me out a great deal, if you cooperate. And if you don't, there is always the fun I get in an execution!"

"I will never help you. You are cruel and evil. I would rather die!" said the girl, her voice rising. Scarlet frowned. "That could be arranged." She replied coldly. I can't kill her yet. She will be of great use to me. This Fire could change everything. She is by far the most powerful I've come across. What would change her mind? "What about that boy you were with? What if I killed him?" The Fire stiffened. Ah, that hit home. "Yes, what if we hunted him down and I told him that you betrayed him, that you ordered him to be killed?"

Scarlet could see the girl struggling. Finally, the Fire said, "I can't work for you. You have killed every other person I have loved, you have had a long, painful rule. And now it is going to be finished. You'll never find him. And you will never have me, because I will not give in to you! I will not give in!" she was yelling now. Scarlet seethed. This stupid girl! She is going to ruin everything! Everything! "Alright," her voice was calm, but the hatred in her eyes said otherwise, "let's see what your answer is after he is killed, slowly, right before your eyes. Begin the search!" At that, guards marched, single file, out the palace doors looking for one thing, Thea's best friend.
