With this month being Suicide Awareness/Prevention Month, it only makes sense that I do a discussion over suicide and how to help prevent it. Yes, we've already done one, but we're going to do it again! (This one will be a bit different.)

First, I need to say this: Any and ALL talk about suicide should be taken SERIOUSLY and if you're not going to, you might as well stop reading right now. I'm not trying to be rude, but this sensitive subject needs to be handled very seriously, with care and respect. Thank you.

Okay, now I would like to get everyone caught up on the entirety of the situation with a fact or two:

-In 2004, suicide was the 5th leading cause of death in ages 25 to 64, and the 3rd leading cause of death in ages 15-24. (This ranking has most likely gone up from then.)

-When committing suicide, males typically choose harsher weapons, such as guns, to do it, while females tend to use pills. This is why more men "succeed" at it than women. (Not being sexist, that's just proven fact. It's just the way we are as each gender.)

-Every 40 seconds someone dies by suicide.

~

As requested by a friend of mine, we're going to begin by looking at this subject from the perspective of the person dealing with suicidal thoughts and feelings. This could be you right now or it could be you in the future, but I'm here to ensure you of a few things.

I've never in my life had any suicidal feelings, but I do know what it is like to be really far down and let me tell you, it's not fun. It hurts. But still I can't even begin to imagine what it must be like to be broken to the point that you feel like you need to end your own life.

Here's the thing though: if this is you, you probably don't want to end your life, you just want to end the pain. Well, listen, pain never lasts forever. It's only temporary. You're looking at life through a tunnel, only allowing yourself to see the bad, but there is so much good in the world!

Talk with someone. I promise, it will help you.

I promise, it will help you
