Harry's POV:
"I'm home!" I yelled as I walked into my home, tossing my bag on the floor.
No reponse. As usual, there was not a single soul in my house.
My mother was probably at work, and God only knows where my sister could be. I sighed and walked into the kitchen, as the rumbling in my stomach reminded me how hungry I was.
I took out some bread and whatever deli meat we have, and slapped together a sandwich. I grabbed a Coke out of the fridge and took all my things into the TV room.
I turned on a channel which had on some American football game and watched it.
The Packers. I liked this team.
I felt my phone buzz in my pocket, so I took it out to see who had texted me.
"Hey Babe! Are you excited for the party tonight ;) -Liv<3"
Oh, yeah. I had forgotten all about that.
"Very excited. Can't wait to see you! Gtg, homework:( xx-Harry" I responded quickly, even though I had no intention on doing my homework until the last minute.
After I finished my sandwich, I decided to go for a walk. So many things had happened this week that I needed to think about.
I put on my jacket and boots and shut the door behind me.
And then I walked.
I walked past my block, down the street, and into a little place I loved to go.
The music store.
Yeah, I know most people just download their music onto their phones. I don't. I always like listening to a hard copy, one that I can hold and that feels like it's mine.
That sounds silly, I know.
I walked into the store and the little bell on the door jingled.
"Harry!" the owner, Matt, called out.
'Hey." I said, smiling at all of the familiar faces.
"What can I help you with today?" he asked, putting down a box of unpacked albums and coming over to greet me.
"I don't know. I just kind of came here to clear my mind." I said, skimming through the titles of the albums that were on the stand in front of me.
He nodded. "What's been going on lately?" he asked, walking back over to his desk and grabbing the box he was unpacking.
I looked around the store. No one was in there besides me and Matt, and a couple of other workers who I knew.
I sighed. "So I have a girlfriend." I said, taking a deep breath and looking over towards Matt.
"So she cheated?" he asked, getting down on his hands and knees to pick up an album he dropped.
I laughed. "Nope. I mean, not as far as I know." We both chuckled at that. "What I was saying, is I don't even know if I like her or not. I just asked her out for popularity points."
He frowned and nodded. "Well, that puts you in a kind of sticky situation, doesn't it?"
I shrugged. "I guess. And then there's Cassia, who's this other girl that I'm supposed to hate, and I really don't. I want to be friends with her, but I'm supposed to tease her and make her feel bad about herself."
He looked at me with a raised eyebrow. "Why do you have to be mean to her? Isn't that your choice?"
I tensed up slightly. "No, it isn't. I wanted to have friends when I moved here, and to do that, there had to be somone that I picked on. And all signs were pointing to her."
He squinted his eyes at me. "So what you're telling me is you chose to pick on her because you wanted to be popular?" He shook his head. "That's not something Harry would do."
I felt stinging in my eyes as I came to full realization of what he said. I frowned and started looking at the album titles again.
"I know you came here to talk, but I have an old album I think you'd enjoy." Matt said after a while, pulling out a case and tossing it to me.
I caught it and flipped it over to see what it was.
"Stevie Wonder?" I asked.
He shrugged. "Just listen to it. It's always been one of my favorites."
I slowly nodded in agreement. "How much is it?"
He shook his head. "My treat. Now go figure out your life and next time you come back here, I'm expecting that happy, cheeky old Harry that came in here a couple months ago." He said, smiling.
I laughed. "Trust me, I'll have my entire life planned out the next time I walk through this door."
I left and walked back home, embracing everything Matt had just told me.
Up until today, Matt had been just a good friend who was always there for me.
I just now realized in that visit, that Matt is my only father-figure. The only person I look up to.
And I can't bear to know that he thinks that I'm a bad person.
As I turned on the lights to my house and shut the door, I promised myself one thing:
I'm going to change.
