Cassias POV:

You've probably been wondering about who all these people are.

So I guess I have to explain it to you before I can talk about them like you know who they are.

So imagine this:

A lunchroom.

Simple? Yeah.

So each table is a different "clique."

First, we have the "popular girls."

Aka, Olivia and her pack of wolves. That group involves a complicated character, one known as Victoria Allen.

Then, there are the "popular boys."

That's where Harry sits, Harry and a bunch of other boys. Except there's one girl that sits there. Just one.

There's my group of friends.

Me, Dani, and a couple of other really sweet girls.

And then there are your usual "nerds," "jocks," and "drama geeks."

But I pretty much stay clear of all of that stuff.

••••••

As I walk into lunch that day, I survey the room.

No eyes on me, no eyes ignoring me. Good. Just how I want it to be.

"Cassia!" one of my friends, Jackie, calls. She waves, and I smile, making my way through the crowd to my table.

I take my usual seat next to Dani, right on the edge of the table.

I murmur hello's to the rest of my table residents.

"Wanna go get food with me?" I ask Dani. She nods and we stand up and get into the never ending lunch line.

"So how was you're morning?" Dani asked, careful not to bring up what had happened with Harry and Olivia.

"Pretty good. Mr. Daniels was..."

"Perfect." She finished, smiling. "I know."

I grinned and moved up in line.

After we got our food, we went back to out seats.

Over the course of lunch, I heard a story about how Victoria was such a slut and was cheating on her boyfriend.

Of course.

I also heard about how Jackie and Danny Lawrence are now going out.

I didn't really care about all the gossip, I just smiled and congratulated Jackie.

After lunch, we had a free period, so we went outside and walked into the bleachers, a place where almost everyone went.

"I have to tell you something," Dani whispered excitedly in my ear as we took a little space underneath the bleachers.

I curled up in a ball, my hair whipping in my face, the wind stinging my cheeks.

"Yeah?" I asked.

"I...I..." She stuttered, looking for the right words.

"What?" I asked, leaning back on a freezing piece of metal.

"I like Harry."

At first I just sat where I was, completely and utterly motionless.

Then I stood up.

I stood up and yelled.

"Why? What's wrong with you?"

I spat. "Do you realize how much he has done to me? Do you realize how much I hate him?"

I clenched my fists, tears brimming in my eyes.

Dani's eyes narrowed.

"Listen here, Cassia." She whispered, too softly for me to feel comfortable. "This is my life. Mine. Not yours. I can like who I want. And I know it's not preferable for it to be Harry, but I honestly can't help it."

I scowled. "Preferable? You think it's not preferable? It's more like a decision that could ruin my life. You like someone who ruined my life." I muttered. "And anyway, he would never like you back."

The second those words came out of my my mouth, I regretted saying them.

She didn't say anything, but with a blank face, she turned around and walked away, towards Jackie and Lizzie, my other friend.

I sat back down, feeling completely helpless.

That last thing I said...I sounded so...jealous? Maybe even competitive, or protective.

But it wasn't over Harry. It was over the fact that she has found someone that she likes, and that I haven't, and probably never will.

That shoots me right in the gut.

I zipped up my jacket tighter, and pulled my knees to my chest, just like my drawing.

Helpless and hopeless.
