Castor Cruz

I opened my bedroom door and dumped my bag at my desk. I groaned in exhaustion and walked blindly over to my bed before falling onto the soft covers -- these aren't soft?

I opened my eyes and Ethan grinned at me, "Hey, if you're coming out it shouldn't be that difficult."

I punched him in the stomach as I stood up and walked to my desk chair instead.

Ethan sat up, "You take forever to get home."

"We went the long way."

Ethan smirked, "A short detour for a pash?"

"No!" I slapped him lightly, "A short detour for a talk. I'm not some idiot who only does the physical stuff."

"Then how many times have you kissed?"

I thought about it for a moment and then answered, "Once, before we were dating whilst I was having a panic attack. Twice, when we were dating, just the other day when..."

I trailed off. I wasn't sharing that information with anyone.

Ethan smiled mischievously, "Well? When what?"

"When nothing," I pointed sharply at him, "You may be my best friend, but you don't get to know everything."

I looked up and moved to sit in my bay window. Leila was bent over her maths textbook. Her blonde hair was back in a braid, a beanie on her head. She wore a baggy t-shirt and skinny jeans. That wasn't exactly what she's been doing the past few weeks. I frowned.

The sun still hit her just right. She was in her 'nerd' outfit but she still looked amazing.

Which reminded me, I still have boxes full of her clothes. I need to give them back soon. Or not.

Ethan joined me in watching her.

Was this considered creepy? Probably.

Ethan whispered harshly, "So have you told her everything?"

"What do you mean?"

Zoe bounced into my room and we both turned our heads simultaneously.

She wore a nude-coloured leotard with matching ballet flats. Her light-coloured hair was up tight in a donut bun. A few strands fell out. She had a black sports bag over one shoulder as she smiled expectantly at me.

"Zoe?" I raised an eyebrow.

She twirled around my room and flopped onto my bed in a fit of giggles.

"Zoe?" I called out again.

The five-year-old grinned brightly at me, "Mum's busy. She's asked you to take me to ballet class."

I sighed and stood up, grabbing my phone, "Fine."

Ethan chirped, "I'm coming too!"

I picked up Zoe onto my back and she handed her bag to Ethan.

*****

I watched as Zoe ran around the studio with the other little girls. Ethan slapped my arm, "Man, look at those dancers."

I glanced into the room the next studio beside Zoe's.

A group of three or four girls our age were standing in there talking. The leotards they wore showed off their entire sculpted body. I raised an eyebrow, "They're alright."

I looked away. When you're dating Australia's best supermodel, you learn to get rid of other beliefs.

Ethan slapped my arm again, "No way, is that Evie Jenkins?!"

I sighed and looked back again for any sign of Leila's best friend.

Indeed, she was there. She was in the middle of tying her hair up into a donut bun. Ethan was staring a little too much at her. I fake-punched his arm, "Dude, quit the staring. It's creepy."

Ethan gulped, "God... she actually has a body under those baggy clothes."

"Dude, quit leering," I repeated.

Ethan didn't. Instead he said, "I'm gonna go talk to her."

"Ethan," I fake-punched his arm, "She's in the middle of ballet!"

Ethan sighed, "I'm going to talk to her tomorrow then."

"What about?"

Ethan rolled his eyes, "About how you killed a guy. No, I'm going to ask her out."

I chuckled, "I didn't kill anyone, Ethan."

"But you did give someone severe burns."

"They weren't severe," I rolled my eyes, "Just first grade."

"Still... you set a building on fire," Ethan pressed his lips together.

Was that what he'd been asking about earlier?

"I've told Leila that I went to juvie, Ethan," I sighed, "And I told her why."

"But..." Ethan began slowly, "Did you tell her why you were there for so long?"

He's right. I should have only been there a year. But I was such a misbehaving pre-teen at twelve that they made me stay for two more years. I didn't tell Leila that part.

I shook my head, "Did you tell anyone why you were at juvie in the first place?"

Ethan stiffened and then murmured, "Good point."

My phone buzzed in my pocket and I pulled it out. It was from Leila. I grinned: Read this article today and it said to tell someone you like them :).

I typed back: Well, I like you too.

Then where are you?

I've taken Zoe to ballet class...

When you get back we're watching the new TMNT, got it?

hehe, sure Nerd.

Bye, Ken.

Thanks, Barbie.

Shut up, Jerk.

Whatever, Princess.

Princess?

It came to mind ;)

Ethan glanced over my shoulder at my phone, "That is disgusting and why I don't want a girlfriend."

"What about Evie?" I teased.

Ethan smirked, "Except maybe her."
