The footsteps became louder, though they didn't sound like human footsteps. They were louder and stranger. I was confused, but when I noticed The Doctor's pale face and wide eyes, I could see that he knew exactly what had us held captive.
"Doctor," I started with a shaky voice, "what's coming for us?" He closed his eyes and took an unsteady breath. When he opened them, they were dark and grim.
"They're an old enemy of mine. Very old. I've defeated them time after time but they keep coming back. They are very dangerous. Why did it have to be them?" His voice turned to a whisper at the end.
"Who are they?" I asked again.
He put his hand against the wall and faced me slowly.
"They are the cybermen." He said in a grim voice. I wasn't sure what 'cybermen' were, but judging by The Doctor's tone, they were dangerous. More dangerous than the men in the alley, and more dangerous than anything I've ever faced.
"Prisoners have been detected. Prisoners have been detected." A deep voice repeated from down the hall. I froze. The voice was enough to chill my bones, freezing every cell in my blood together until I was as stiff as a board.
"Violet," The Doctor whispered, grabbing my hand. I hardly felt it through the fear, but I was grateful for the comfort.
A figure stepped in front of the cell. It was tall, taller than both The Doctor and I. It had skin made of steel and no eyes. The rest was indescribable.
"Prisoners, state your names." The cyber man said in that cold, robotic voice. The Doctor stared at it hatefully for a second before turning into his usual, quick talking self.
"Ah, yes, right then, I'm the Doctor. Hi. I'm sure you remember me. This is Violet Grace, a friend of mine." The cyberman took a step back at his words.
"Ah," The Doctor continued in a smug voice. "You have heard of me then. I wasn't sure when this was. I'm awful at dates, truly. So, you know about me. Why is this prison here, then? Who were you trying to catch? Or, did you mean to put it here? It seems that you've crashed, but could be intentional. So, what is it? What are you plans?" The cyber man stared at him in silence for a second.
"Who is the female? She is incorrect."
"What?" The Doctor asked, waving his hand in the air. "After all of those questions, you're wondering about her? What do you mean incorrect? Oh, wait. She isn't from this time. That's likely what you mean. She's from a couple years back." The cyberman stared at him blankly.
"She is incorrect. She will be taken for testing." My heart dropped from my chest. Panic swirled around me, and my breaths became shorter.
"Doctor," I whispered, looking at him with frantic eyes. "Doctor what does he mean by testing?" The Doctor stared back at me, his mouth hanging open slightly. He didn't know. He had no idea what would happen to me. Somehow, that scared me more than the cyberman who was unlocking the door.
The cyberman stepped inside the door and held out his arm.
"The female will come." He stated coldly. More panic settled inside of me as the creature came closer. I could feel it's cold from behind my back, seeping into my veins. I turned back and faced The Doctor, tears in my eyes.
"I'm scared, Doctor. I'm so scared." My lip trembled as I felt the robot step closer to me, almost touching.
"Violet," He said quietly, eyes wide in sadness and fear. "Violet, listen to me. I promise you, I'll get you out of this."
The cyber man grabbed my arm and started pulling me back until I was outside the cell. As he pulled me down the corridor, I heard The Doctor's screams from behind.
"I'll get you out! I promise, Violet! I promise!"
