A/N I'M SO SORRY FOR BEING LATE! My internet crashed and I couldn't update so I appologize times a thousand! Please don't kill me!!!
My eyes peeled open, as the knife in the back of my head was too much to ignore. I groaned, rubbing my eyes wearily.
“It’s not a concussion, in case you were wondering. You asked that a couple times in your sleep. You’ve got yourself a nasty bruise, though. Sorry, next time I should mention when something is going to move like that. Honestly, I wasn’t sure what that button would do, so I didn’t know it would be so powerful. I’m used to the rough travel in this old thing, so that was nothing for me. I should have warned you. I’m sorry.” He’d started the speech comical, but his eyes grew serious by the end of it.
The Doctor was standing at the console cleaning some of the controls. His jacket was thrown to the side on a chair, and the sleeves of his shirt were shoved up to his elbows. His bow tie hung loosely around his neck and his hair was shaggy and out of place. It was the most casual I’d ever seen him. Personally, I thought he looked adorable this way.
“It’s okay.” I said lightly, glad that the pain had subdued enough to make talking easier. It still hurt, but not nearly as much as before.
He put the spray bottle down, a sight that would have been comical if not for the look in his eyes, and walked over to me. I was laying on the floor in the TARDIS, so he had to kneel to be at my level.
“I really am sorry, Violet. I promise you, I won’t put you in danger anymore. I’ll bring you home the second I drop this ship off far away from Earth.” I couldn’t help being disappointed at his words, for whatever reason. Sure, he was adorable and fun, but I’d almost died a hundred times already. He wasn’t safe to be around. I needed to get back to Uni and work on my book once more. Still, even as the voice of reason tried to connect to my mind, I still felt a deep sadness at the thought of leaving him.
“Oh.” I responded, unsure what else to say. Instead of questioning him on it, I asked another question, a safer question.
“How are you pulling the ship?” I asked. He opened his mouth to explain, then snapped it shut.
“Yeah, I want to explain, but you wouldn’t understand. Let’s just say the TARDIS is like a giant magnet, and it pulls the other ship across the universe.” I nodded, but I was still confused.
“Is that actually how it happens?” I asked curiously. He raised his eyebrows and grinned.
“Not at all.” He responded.
“Another bit I don’t understand,” I started while rubbing my eyes. “How did the people on Rio not notice you dragging a giant space ship up into the sky using your public call box?”
He chuckled, sending me another you-wouldn’t-understand look. In return, I sent him a try-me look.
He still looked skeptical, so I answered for him.
“Let me guess. You said that the ship had a perception filter on it. You and I could see past it because of intelligence, but the other people wouldn’t. They saw something, but the filter made it difficult for them to look straight at it, so they dismissed it as a bird, or a plane.” He stared at me in utter shock. The look was so amusing that I laughed, sending him a wink.
“Why Doctor, have you forgotten? I am the chosen one, after all. The intelligent friend of yours destined to lead a race to world domination. That makes me pretty smart.” The blank look on his face disappeared, replaced by an ear-to-ear grin.
“Why of course, how could I have forgotten?” His face fell after a moment of silence, and I got nervous. What was he thinking about? If only I could see into his mind.
“What’s wrong?” I asked cautiously. He took one last moment of silence then forced a smile onto his face. It was clearly a fake one, but I didn’t question him.
“Oh. What? Nothing. Everything’s perfect: absolutely brilliant. Actually, it’s about time.” I shook my head, confused.
“About time for what.” I asked, but I already knew what he was going to say by the look on his face. The conversation he’d had with himself came flooding back into my mind and my heart fell.
“It’s time to get you home, Violet Grace.”
