<MARCUS POINT OF VIEW>
I woke up with a jump and saw that the chemistry room was empty.
“Someone finally decided to wake up.” Mr. Maze was at his desk.
“Yeah sorry about that.” I rubbed my forehead and looked at the clock. Of course it was all a dream; Courtney talking to me, about hockey. I laughed at myself. A girl like her would never talk to guy like me.
“You’ve got an F and you keep falling asleep, what has gotten into you?”
“I’m sorry.” I sighed.
“Looks like you had a rough night.” Mr. Maze started to write something on a sticky note.
“Here’s a pass, but I’m going to need you to come in tomorrow and make up notes.” I grabbed the sticky note.
“Alright, thank you.” I started to walk out.
“Marcus?”
“Yeah?” I stopped and turned around.
“Who did that to you?” Mr. Maze looked at my face.
“Some, kids.” I yawned.
“It’s been taken care of, just some hockey stuff, no worries.” I walked out.
As I was walking down the hall to 8th period all I could think about was my dream and Courtney. It felt so real yet it wasn’t. We only had ever spoken once in person, when she asked for help on a paper. That day still ranked as one of my favorites and the thought made me smile. I quickly erased the smile. Pointless in believing when I know my dreams will only be crushed.
I entered my class and sat down next to Danny who had a large blue bruise on his cheek. His hair covered part of it up so he didn’t look as bad as me.
“Where were you?” He whispered.
“I fell asleep in Mr. Maze’s class.” Danny laughed and I shook my head and looked toward the front of the room.
By the end of the class Mrs. Alzner came up to both Danny and I.
“What happened?” She asked.
“God why does every teacher want to know?” I yelled. I probably should have controlled my anger a bit better.
“We care about our students Mr. Bennett, and we try and help you out if there is some kind of problem.” She calmly replied.
“Yeah right.” Danny laughed.
“Mr. Healy.” She yelled and Danny went silent.
“Well everything is fine, just got in a little fight at the rink.” I replied.
Mrs. Alzner looked confused.
“Hockey, we play hockey.” Danny added.
“Well I don’t think you should be getting in fights.” She replied.
“It was a misunderstanding but we got it taken care of and it most likely won’t happen again.” Danny said.
“I’ll never understand boys and how they always must be starting something.” She walked away and the bell rang.
I walked outside with Danny.
“Coming to my place?” Danny asked.
“Can’t my dad is being an ass and Steven’s living with us now.”
“Steven eh? Well I’m sure it won’t be too bad.”
“Yeah, man I don’t know, but I need to talk to you soon about something.”
