"James."
James stirs, and finally raises his head from the small pillow he made with his arms in an attempt to make the cafeteria table less uncomfortable.
"James, dude. You, for real, need sleep. Quit stressing, man!" His best friend remarks.
"Listen, I can't just 'get sleep', okay? I'm stressing out big time, man." James replies groggily.
"Hey, I'm just trying to help out. I don't want my best friend looking like a mess when they meet their," He pauses for a moment, to add a dramatic effect and flips his hair, "Perfect, dream girl, soul mate."
James chuckles lightly and slowly stands to get going to his next class, "You are so stupid, Seamus, I swear."
Leaving Seamus with his other friends at the cafe table, James goes to his locker, getting all of the supplies he needs for the last few classes he had in the day and heads to his English class, but not, of course, getting stopped by another one of his good friends.
"So, I see you are still nervous." Jordan smiles.
"You would be too if you were going to meet your fucking dream girl for the first ti-" James pauses himself, realizing Jordan already had been through this.
Some people, like Jordan, are lucky and meet their soul mate really early in life, and get a long time to build that relationship. While others, like James, has to wait.
"You've only got, how many days?" Jordan asks.
"Fucking," James checks his timer located on his wrist, "Two days."
"You do realize what is in two days, right?"
"Why do you think I am this fucking stressed?!" James yells.
"Well, think of it this way," Jordan couldn't wipe the smirk off his face if it would save his life, "You get to look all dressed up for your special lady."
James pushes past Jordan, but not before muttering quiet profanities, going to his right before the bell rang.
The rest of the day went by rather quickly. Probably because nobody really seemed to bother nor care that James just slept through most of his classes. He couldn't help it. He was going to be meeting the girl of his dreams in a matter of less than 48 hours. That's all James could think about, thus resulting in no sleep and extreme stress. But what worried him most was making his father proud. James doesn't like bringing up his old man to people, for the simple fact that he has been long gone since James could remember. And without having a Father figure in his life, the only thing James can really do is prove to him that he can get a perfect dream girl. In less than 48 hours.
It just so happened that in, also, less than 48 hours, came prom. Now, not only will it already be automatically two times more nerve racking, but he would not be able to narrow his choices down to a few girls. There will be so many girls there he couldn't do anything, but wait.
Forcing the thoughts out of his head, James finishes his walk from school and opens the front door to his house. The house wasn't particularly huge, but it wasn't labelled as a normal 'small family' house either. James never understood why he has lived in the large house his whole life, even after his father's death, but he never chose to question his mother, figuring it might bring up unwanted memories.
James throws his backpack full of homework on the couch in the living room before rushing to the kitchen where the smell of burning noodles originate. There he finds an older woman stirring a boiling pot.
"Hey, Mom." James says, yawning straight after.
"Aw, James. You know, worrying about your dream girl won't make it any easier for you to meet her." His mother says.
"It's hard, okay?"
"Oh, I never said it would be easy, I just said it would be helpful if you didn't make it harder than it already is."
James sighs. She's right. "Alright, I'm going to go do my homework and take a nap."
"I'll save food for you!" His mother calls to him.
"You know me so well!" James shouts back, closing his door and throwing his back pack on his computer chair. He sits on his bed, face in hands. He takes a small glance at the small timer on his fore arm and sighs.
"31 more hours." James mutters, laying back on his bed, deciding to do his homework some time later, as he drifts to a small slumber.
