"Well we aren't going to let Freddie go first, for obvious reasons" Kevin sniggered staring at the rickety bridge.
"Lovely, thanks"
"I'll go" Darrell said in a relaxed tone as he advanced towards the bridge.
It was surprisingly steady underfoot despite it's appearance, although it did sway slightly in the wind just enough to make the butterflies in your stomach flutter. It was quite peaceful in a way to walk across and feel the wind lifting giving your hair no weight. However that was when there was only Darrell on it, 2 minutes later when the entire group were walking across it things were very different.
"NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO" Kevin repeated with his eyes fixated on the ground below made up entirely of jagged rocks jutting from the crashing waves in all directions.
"WE SHOULD HAVE ALL GONE SEPARATELY!" Layla said slowly as she clung on to the rope trailing alongside the now vigorously swinging bridge, "I'M NOT CONVINCED THIS BRIDGE WAS MADE FOR ANY MORE THAN ONE SMALL SMALL PERSON!"
The wind picked up and everyone except Darrell was screaming, on top of the roaring wind and the crashing waves beneath them.
"YOU SAY THAT NOW LAYLA, BUT WHAT GOOD IS NOW HMMM!" Kevin replied still not peeling his eyes from the threatening fall.
Darrell remained silent with his eyes closed shut, he walked blindly but was sure of each step as he guided the group across this bridge of death. His hands followed the rope closely, but he didn't cling on as the others did. He just kept thinking about the hairdryer blowing gently on his open palm and kept going, undisturbed. It wasn't until Draculaa tripped and grabbed onto his shoulders for dear life that he opened his eyes - and then all hell broke loose.
"It's soo far down, far down it is sooo. far far far far down" Darrell whispered as he began to tremble. "I NEED TO GET TO THE OTHER SIDE"
At that moment a werewolf survival instinct kicked in, and he was off. He sprinted across the panels with his feet barely making contact at all until he reached the security of the grass underfoot. Unfortunately with this method there comes a cost, as when he turned round all three others had managed to stay stable but Freddie was hanging from the bridge with only his weak grasp keeping him from his death.
"Freddie!" Darrell shouted.
"I should've worked out more often!" Freddie whimpered but it was swallowed up with the sound of the wind. "I REGRET EVERY SECOND I HAVE SPENT WATCING OTHER PEOPLE PLAY VIDEO GAMES I CAN'T AFFORD ON THE INTERNET" his fingers then began to peel away from the wood. The others slowly edged to where he was before it was too late but they were to terrified to go any quicker.
Freddie fell.
Kevin would've fallen to his knees if he wasn't frozen from fear and still looking down at the rocks.
Draculaa cried out in pain.
Darrell let his head fall to his hands, overcome with the guilt.
Layla sighed secretly in relief.
Then suddenly a flap of wings filled the valley as a large round bat flew up ungracefully as a silhouette against the sun. Freddie had turned into a bat and all was well again.
The group both relieved and shaken up made their way towards the hotel that had once looked like a beacon of hope but now only seemed to look like a shabby hotel with damp issues. There was an empty mailbox at the gate that read: Shatterton Inn.
"It's all an act so that humans don't stay here" Kevin said confidently. "It'll be nice inside."
The hotel looked bad from the outside but the inside was a whole other level and a half. Shatterton Hotel sounded like a cesspit, it looked like a cesspit and they had never smelt anything so like a cesspit. They walked into the lobby hesitantly, Layla's eyes darted around restlessly eyeing each creepy crawly individually. An elderly lady with a crooked back slowly hobbled to the desk. She smiled to reveal her fake teeth and spoke.
"Aren't you going to ring the bell"
Kevin reached forward and rang it with a confused expression on his face.
"How can I help you?"
"We had a room booked under the name of Ke Vin"
"Oh yes, I'll just let my husband get you a key"
She swivelled round gradually and opened a small door. A frantic bat flew out startling everyone but the old lady. The bat swiftly flew back into the cupboard dropping the keys onto Freddie's head on the way. It was becoming more and more obvious why the couple didn't have any mail.
As they walked up the staircase Draculaa whispered to Kevin "You pronounced your name weird"
"No, they asked for a first and last name so I improvised" he shrugged.
The hotel room looked just as a normal hotel room would in terms of lay out, except there was only one double coffin so Kevin, Freddie and Darrell would have to sleep on the floor. The yellow carpeted, crawling with every mite you could think of, smelling of every bad odour under the sun, blood stained, cold and hard floor. Although having said that I wouldn't much fancy spending a night trapped inside a strange coffin with goodness knows what else.
"This is what happens when we let Kevin book the hotel room" Draculaa complained. "We don't even get a mini refrigerator"
"It's freezing in here" Layla shuddered. "Why would we want a mini refrigerator when I can freeze food with just my breath.." It actually managed to be colder than in was outside, maybe it was all the cold blooded vampires, or the poorly bled radiators.
"Why don't you get in my sleeping bag?" Darrell suggested. "I'm part wolf you know, I'll warm you up"
Draculaa at first was unsure but at the sight of her reddening nose let her go. He stepped in his coffin and 5 seconds later flung out a long sausage shaped cushion. "Why are there always weird shaped cushions?!"
Layla slid into the sleeping bag she was so tired she just fell asleep straight away.
"Well we all know Draculaa I am hotter than you" Darrell whispered.
Draculaa's head shot up from the coffin.
"Oh no he didn't" Freddie squealed.
"Okay there's a line Darrell a very clear and vibrant line. When you re-enact a Jacob and Bella scene with my girlfriend you cross that line"
"Lines are there to be crossed" He fought.
"Layla get the hell out of that sleeping bag!"
"FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT" Freddie and Kevin chanted.
Soon the argument had calmed down and Draculaa had a black eye, but Layla was back in his coffin so all was well again.
"You two encouraged me into violence" Draculaa whispered to Kevin and Freddie once the lights were out. "I'm very disappointed in you, you're so irresponsible"
"No were not" Freddie defended defensively.
"Yeah, admittedly I did book us a room in the skankiest hotel ever known to man but Freddie hasn't done anything except revert back to simple playground instinct. See an argument, stir it till it explodes into violence" Kevin smiled. "Freddie has actually been quite helpful today I've been really impressed, I mean he's been looking after my FatNav, where is my FatNav actually Freddie?"
"Threw it down the cliff"
