-Ak's 3rd birthday-

"Dan everything has to be just right. I know we aren't going to invite anyone over really, but still. It's her first birthday with us." I said frantically to Dan. It's currently five in the morning and I thought it was a good time to decorate the house. I had bought decorations last night. I want today to be just about little Alex. I don't want her to think we would ever forget about her. Also it's an excuse to decorate. Dan likes the decorating part, not the waking up at 5 A.M. part. "Phil, I understand that you want everything to be perfect, I do too, but we don't to scare her. She's probably never had a birthday party before." Dan said patting my back as he passed. I sighed saying, "You're right." Then I took in his appearance. "You're wearing that hoodie because....." I said. I know I said we should dress up sort of I mean I'm just going to wear a party hat. His response was, "I didn't want to wear the dinosaur onesie or Llama hat. "  I just put my hands up in surrender and continued to decorate the room. I hope she likes it.

It's seven now and I' m about to go get little Alex up. I have Dan waiting in the kitchen with a video camera set up and a plate of sweets. We are going to make home videos and childhood photos. Also spoiling her a bit by giving her sweets for breakfast. Walking in her room I shook her gently awake. "Hey, Alex, time to get up." I said as she rolled over looking at me with sleepy eyes. I smiled picking her up. When we got into the hallway, however, she wanted down and I led her to the kitchen. "Happy Birthday AK." Dan smiled as we entered the kitchen and he took a picture. Little Alex smiled and giggled running to him and giving him a hug before coming back to me. I sat her on my lap at the table in front of the sweets. Let's hope we don't make a huge mess by doing this.
