Chapter 8
I was at lunch with Chris and Robin, telling them what happened last night. Things didn't go the way I expected. "My mom wasn't having it, and she didn't even let me explain." But I tried.
"What happened this morning?" Chris asked.
"Nothing really. But, this was the first time of many, I didn't tell her I love her before I left for school." Chris gave me a look. "Oh don't give me that look..I was upset." He kept staring at me, "Ugh, okay I'll call her before I go quit my job.
The school day went by pretty fast for a Monday. I told Chris that I'll call my mom, and to be honest I did feel bad. It was a stretch trying to convince my mom anyways. I called her but it kept going to voicemail. I'll just talk to her when I get home. When I got to the cafe, I could see how busy they were. Ha, not when I was here. "Hey, where's Vin?" My coworker pointed to the kitchen. I walked into the kitchen and nearly get knocked over. "Vin what's-
"Good, your here. It's rush hour so people want their lunch." Vin was pushing me out the kitchen, "Get into uniform and get to work."
"But-"
"Chop chop, Riverson." I didn't stop to tell him I have to quit but he looked like he needed help. I'll just call my mom again to tell her, I'll be home late. It went straight to voicemail again, "Hey, mom when you get this I won't be home til later so don't worry." I got straight to work and no kidding it was busy.
Work was finally slowing down, I decided to take my lunch break. I checked my phone, "7 missed calls?" There were four from my dad and three from Chris. It was raining outside so I just called my dad in the break room. "Hey dad-"
"Michelle, why haven't you been answering your phone." He sounded tired.
"Dad, is everything alright?" There was a long pause. "Hello?"
"Honey just get down to the hospital. Okay."
"Okay." I knew something was wrong. I left work without telling Vin, he'll understand.
I finally made it to the hospital and saw my dad sitting and Chris leaning up against a wall. I walked over to them. Chris saw me and just stared at me, with a worried looked on his face. "I got here as fast as I could." They both looked at me, "Can someone please tell me, what's going on?!" A doctor walked over to us.
"I'm so sorry to say, we couldn't revive your wife. If-"
"Mom? What happened to mom?" I looked at my dad and he just had a blank stare. "Chris?! What is he talking about?" I could feel tears flooding my eye's, Chris walked over to me.
"Mickey, cm'on-" I was pushing him off me. I feel to the floor.
"Chris?! Stop please..tell me what happened?"
"Your mom..." He sounded like he was about to cry. "..She um, got into a car accident." When those words came out of his mouth. And with what the doctor said, my mom's dead. I got up and walked outside even though it was raining. The only thought running through my head was, "I never got to tell her I loved her."
When we got home I went straight upstairs and closed my door. *creeek* I turned around and heard my floor boards creak, and knew who it was. "I'm so sorry, I didn't know anything like this would happen." I stared at her intensely. "I really-"
"Where the hell were you!?" I stepped up closer to her face to face. She looked confused.
"I know your upset but-" I pushed her
