Chapter 11

My birthday is today and I'm covering someone's shift on a Sunday. I'm not complaining it's just, my first birthday without my mom. It's an eerie feeling but I know I still got my dad and two great friends to spend this day with. Robin invited me, Chris and my dad over to her house for a small get-together for my birthday. She knows parties aren't my thing, so after work gotta head home take a shower and head to Robins.

"Michelle." I turned around to see who called my name, "Hey, how are you." -it was some random guy. I looked him confused because I had no clue who he was. He walked towards me.

"I'm sorry, do I know you?" He smiled oddly wide.

"It's me" Okay I have no clue who this guy is. "Your cousin, Kevin."

"I don't-"

"You probably don't remember me, you were so young the last time we met."

"..Oh well, what brings you here?"

"Your dad-"

"Is he alright?"

"Sorry, yeah he's okay. He just has to go out of town again and didn't wanna leave you home alone." I rather be home alone, than with some stranger in my home.

"Well, okay, um I'm just finishing up here I'll..see you at home then." He nodded and left the cafe. I really don't understand why my, dad keeps going out of town. And miss my birthday also.

I finally got home and saw that cousin Kevin was, sprawled out on the couch eating chips and drinking beer. "Who is this guy?" I whispered to myself as I was going upstairs. "Okay shower, fix hair and a little makeup. Alright, I can do this." I was trying to get myself into my new pink dress I bought. I don't know what I was thinking, I don't really wear dresses. But it's a special day. "This is really annoying, how do girls zip these damn things up by themselves."

"You look really nice." I jumped at the voice. "Oh, I'm sorry I didn't mean to scare you." I turned around to see Jules standing by my window.

"It's fine, I just have been getting all kinds of surprises today."

"Here..let me." She turned me around to help zip my zipper up. "Done." Her hands lingered for a moment on my back. I turned back around.

"Thank you." She nodded. "Um, what brings you here at this time of night."

"Ha, it's like 7oclock in the afternoon."

"Well, the sun set pretty fast."

"Yeah-"

"Wait did you say 7, oh crap I'm late, Robin's probably wondering where I am."

"Guess that's my cue." She went toward the window. "And um, happy birthday."

"Thank you." She left, I always wondered if she could fly? Ha, nope that's insane. I grabbed my jacket, phone, and keys and headed downstairs to wait on my Uber. Cousin Kevin looked like he was passed out. There were chips all over the floor, "Really dude?" I heard a bing from my phone, looks like my ride is here.

The Uber driver finally pulled up to Robins, "Thank you." I got out of the car. The house looked the same, haven't been over in a while. I rung the doorbell, it echoed throughout the house. The door finally opened and to my surprise, Chris opened the door. "Hey you." I walked into the house. He pulled me into an embrace. "Haha, you okay?"

"I just missed you."

"Chris, haha I saw you just two days ago at school." He let go of me.

"I know, and happy birthday. Um, were's Mr. Riverson."
