Chapter 17
The winter dance is right around the corner. And me, still without a date. Seems like I'm going to be single forever, haha. Like really, is there something wrong with me? Or- I don't know but, I'm just glad my two best friends are happy with someone. And this whole Jules situation, she finally came to see me. But suggested that we keep things professional. And that, she'll still help me with finding out what really happened to my mom. It's upsetting but nothing I can really do, she doesn't really owe me anything. I'm on my way to Kalvin's, which is right above my job. I gotta know why he kissed me.
"Morning, Michelle what are you doing here? Did I-." When I walked into the cafe I was greeted by Vin, my boss.
"Oh, no. haha, Just meeting a friend." I went up the stairs that lead to Kalvin's door. I knocked on the door, it opened. He looked surprised at first, then he smiled at me. I smiled back. "Hey."
"Hey." We stood there for a minute. "Um, come in." He stepped aside to let me in. "Ugh, sorry for the mess." He began picking up shirts and takeout cartons from the floor. "I'm never like this, I just got a lot on my mind." I went to go sit on his couch.
"It's okay, really." He was franticing around, I grabbed his hand. "Hey, calm down. It's alright, here come sit." I patted the other side of the couch. He put down the things in his hands and sat next to me. "Um, the reason why I'm here is...We haven't really talked since."
"Since I kissed you." He shifted a little. "Right, I know it was out of the blue. I just..to be honest, I don't know why I really kissed you...Can we start over? Do mind if we do?"
"..Yeah, sure. What do you have in mind."
"Well the winter dance is coming up and..I don't have a date. Can I take you as my date?" I looked away wondering what I should say because I-
"It's okay if you-" I turned to him.
"No, it's fine. I would love to be your date." I smiled at him he returned it.
I finally got home and saw that once again my dad wasn't home, it's as if I'm an orphan. My body was a little sore from having to shovel out our driveway yesterday. "I really need a hot bath." I went up stair to start my bath water. "Gonna need some bubbles." Had to go to my room to get my showering stuff. "Okay, where did I-"
"Do, you like him?" I jumped, startled by a voice. I turned around to see Jules.
"What- What are you talking about?" It's like the middle of the day and Jules is here, she's never here when the sun's shining bright. "Can you at least turn around and tell me what's wrong?" Her back was to me.
"It's you, Elle. It's always been you." Elle? How would? Only- She turned around and took off her hoodie.
"But?! You?! What the hell is going on?!" It was...Robin? She tried to touch me. "Don't!" I looked at her confused and in shock, not knowing what the hell was happening.
"I can explain."
"You sure as hell better?!" She went to go sit on my bed.
"I didn't plan for any of this to happen, honestly."
"Ha, honesty. Funny."
"Elle-"
"Don't Elle me, you've been lying to me. Deceiving me..this whole time." I started to feel tears flooding my eye's. "How could you?"
"...My-" I started to hear something from inside my house. "What's that noise?" Oh, crap my water. I rushed to the bathroom and saw that I flooded the bath with water. But not that much. "Here, let me help-"
"Robin, Jules whatever you call yourself. You need to leave." She looked hurt and taken back by what I said. She didn't say anything, she just left and this time she left out the front door. I went to go lock it. Then it sunk in, I slid down to the floor. "Why me? How could she...do this?" It was hurting more and more as I thought about it.
The next day was school and a part of me was torn. I literally cried my eyes out last night, that kind of betrayal is just...let's just say that it hurt. But, it's time to put on a brave face and get to school. I headed on out not knowing what the will bring. I'm glad that we have a test in the class me and Robin have together. Because I really don't wanna talk to her.
It was finally the end of the day but the bell still hasn't rung yet, and I could feel Robin's gaze on me. *Ring!* "Finally." The bell rung and Robin tried to talk to me but I rushed out of there and went straight to work. When I got to work, it wasn't that busy. I went to go get changed. "Okay, time to get working." People really wanted the pumpkin spice latte today, well it is the last day that it's on the menu. "Hi, what can I get you."
"Two, strawberry pastries and 1 large cup of hot cocoa."
"Alright, that'll be $7.19" He handed me his cash and I gave him his change. I grabbed the guys pastries and put them on the counter and made his hot chocolate.
I handed him his hot chocolate, "Thank you." I smiled and nodded.
"Oh wait, sir." He forgot his pastries but Kalvin came out of nowhere and handed it to him. The guy thanked him. Kalvin turned back to me. I smiled at him and he smiled back.
"That was nice of you."
"What can I say, I'm a good samaritan. So, what's up with you? You've been looking stressed since you got here."
"Oh, so you've been watching me?"
"I- um."
"Haha, kidding....I just got a lot on my mind that's all." He didn't push.
"Well, if you need anything. You know where I live."
"Thanks." He left and I went back to working.
My feet were killing me, I still never got to take that bath. I made it to the subway to finally get home. It wasn't crowded surprisingly. The lights on the train started flickering. A few more people got onto the train. One of them- well not to stereotype but he looked sketchy. He got up. "Okay, everyone wallets now! Chains now!" I started to panic. One of the people on the train didn't react at all. The robber pulled a gun. "Man, I ain't playing with you."
The person lifted their head up."...Robin." I whispered to myself. She was in the same gear as she always is. The lights cut out on the train. All I heard was punches and possibly a broken window. Then the lights came back on. And I saw the robber on the floor handcuffed to a pole. Next thing I know I'm being pulled out of the train. "Hey! What-" I turned around to only be face to face with Robin. She looked like she wanted to say something, but she didn't say anything , "I gotta go."
"Be safe." I stopped and turned around to see that she was gone.
I got home and knew I was in dire need of hot chocolate and a warm bath. My dad was home, "for once." I went into the kitchen to see him cooking. "...Hey" He turned and smiled at me, haven't seen him smile in a while.
"Hungry?"
"Yeah, I'm just going to go clean up. But, I'll eat later." I began to leave but I turned back, "I'm glad you're smiling." He looked confused and then nodded. I went upstairs and took that much-needed bath.
Before I was about to go to bed, I sat on my window ledge. Wondering, why Robin puts her life on the line, just to save people she doesn't even know?? I was there too but, regardless- you know what, I can't really explain why. Maybe I should ask her, but a part of me is still so hurt. So, only time will tell.
A/N: Kalvin and Michelle sitting in a tree KISSING, haha. A date to the dance, nice. I guess the truth is out now. Robin? Hmmm? I feel you on that one, Michelle. I'll feel pretty hurt too. But, you never really know why someone does something. Love? Lust? Consideration? Who know's really, unless you ask. Any feedback is good feedback. Thanks For Reading.
PS: Sorry for the late upload, I've been super busy. But, thanks for sticking with me. :)
