I walk in my front door dripping wet with my eyes puffy and red. "You looked like you just came back from hell." my mother said touching my face gently "Finn are you okay?" I looked into her eyes as my eyes began to shake, i needed to find something to say or she would know. I scavenged my brain for words, but all I managed was "Yep." I smiled my most convincing smile at her. "Why didn't your dad pick you up?" she asked "I don't know, I would rather have walked home anyways." I said taking my muddy shoes off. "Finn, you're going to get sick." she was disappointed in me and I knew it. "I'm fine mom, I promise." she wasn't convinced.
Paul walked through the door booze in his hand. "Honey! I'm.... Oh.... hi Finn" I didn't bother replying. "Mom I'll be up in my room." I walk up the stairs as I hear Paul resume with his words.
As soon as I walk through my door I take off my wet clothes and put them in a hamper. I blow air out of my mouth pushing the wet hair out of my face. Freezing I crawl into my bed and pull the covers over. Slowly I started to warm up at I drifted asleep.
...
It had been 3 days since I had gone to school, I couldn't pretend to be sick any longer. I sit on the end of my bed and put my face in the palms of my hands. A gentle knock comes from my door. My mother's face pops in my room. "How are you feeling Finn?" she was so caring. "Fine thank you." I said smiling at her. "Finn, please don't smile unless you mean it, i don't want to see you have to fake being happy. I don't know if you know but it hurts me more to see you fake your happiness. She walked into my room and sat next to me. "Here." I look at her hands and in them she hold my car keys and my license "I love you Finn" she kissed my forehead. "Have a good day.
Before i could thank her for anything she had left my room. I clenched the keys and slowly released. I grabbed my wallet and put my license inside. Paul had already left for work. I stared at my reflection. Here goes nothing.
I started for my car and headed to school.
a/n: super short chapter, but I didn't have time to really make a longer one. How is his day back going to be? don't you just love his mom?
