Tauriel's POV
We had gotten orders from Thrandruil to dig for gold and silver from morning to noon. It was hard work. Really hard work.
Legolas was lucky. Why? Because he was the prince of Mirkwood, so he didn't have to go out into the wild and search for mines. SO unfair.
But I knew that a commander never pouts, or complains. Well, at least we don't have to work everyday and every night, I reminded myself calmly.
The Mirkwood palace would be finished before you know it, I had thought positively.
🏹🏹🏹
Unfortunately, the Mirkwood palace took 300 years to rebuild. To me it felt like 300,000 years.
But still, I was proud of what we all did. People all around me were cheering with pride. I couldn't help but smile.
Why wouldn't I? We had just done something impossible to do, but the most important thing is that we had done it together, as a family.
The Next Day
I awoke on a sunny day and half believed that the Mirkwood palace burning down was only a nightmare. But as I slowly limped toward my mirror, I could still see the flower Legolas gave me, and I knew this was all real.
I walked to my wardrobe and slipped on a clover green dress. Since I didn't have any patrols today, I was free to do whatever I want, until tomorrow.
I picked up a comb from my bedside table and begun to comb my long, silky velvet red hair. The comb I was using was a gift from Raeyla on my 16th birthday. It was made from quartz and set with emeralds and rubies. I adored it.
I carefully untangled each strand of long, wavy hair and clipped on a dark, green circlet on the back of my head.
I thought a bit of makeup wouldn't hurt, so I pulled out a little chest from under my bed, undid the gold latch and flung the lid open. Inside was a compact mirror, perfume, strawberry lipgloss, makeup powder, eyeliner and eyeshadow.
This whole collection of beauty tips are also a gift from Raeyla except I received them on my 18th birthday, she is obsessed with fashion. Know one knows about it except Legolas and definitely, Raeyla.
I decided to use makeup powder, lipgloss and perfume. I took out a bottle of grapefruit perfume, a compact makeup powder set with a thick brush and my strawberry lipgloss.
I gently opened the compact, took out the brush and dipped it into the honeydew powder. Then I dabbed the brush onto my cheeks, making them look even paler than the original pale skin I have.
I slowly unscrewed the cap of the lipgloss and carefully painted the soft moisture on my lips. I screwed the cap back on, set back the brush with the compact, and placed both idols into the chest, redid the latch and pushed it under my bed.
I walked toward the front door of my room, where I found a pair of emerald green flats. I wriggled my feet into them(also a gift from Raeyla)and dashed out the door.
🏹🏹🏹
It took hours to find what to do. Since Legolas was at his royal duties, I felt lonely without him. He always brings the joy out of me, I thought to myself sadly.
It's plain boring when he's not around.
So I went to the small clearing where we hid from a crowd 300 years ago. As I entered, I wondered, does Raeyla really mean she'll keep our forbidden love a secret? I didn't know what to believe, but if she didn't, I would have her head ... or strangle her to death.
I neared the edge of the water, touching it lightly with my fingertips, brushing them along the surface as well.
I looked at my reflection in the small, spring pool, barely recognising myself. I rarely used Raeyla's makeup collection, which she is a little disappointed about. But she told me I didn't have to use it, so I claimed I would use it once in a while.
Just when I was thinking I had some peace, a soft rustle startled me. I cocked my head around.
It was Raeyla. She walked over and kneeled down next to me. "What's up?" She asked.
"Oh, nothing exciting," I said.
"You look beautiful," She added.
"Thank you." I replied, turning to face her.
We spoke of many things about the past, about my first play date, the time when we went to the Summer Dance together and our first swim with river dolphins from Rivendell. It was one of my favourite memories.
Flashback
Today is my first day to swim in a pod of river dolphins with my friend, Raeyla. We're excited to death.
Mum didn't allow me to go all funky with my favourite bikini so she insisted me to wear a boring one-piece swimsuit.
But still, it would be fun.
I looked over at the edge of a small, 5 metered cliff. "Raeyla, I'm not sure I can do--whoa!!!" She pushed me off the cliff! As I tumbled down, I squeezed my eyes shut for impact. Suddenly, a river dolphin caught me! I scratched its belly in return.
I looked up and glared at Raeyla. She just put her hands on either side of her shoulders and shrugged at the same time, then dived off the cliff.
🏹🏹🏹
As the carriage thumped slightly on the way to Mirkwood, Raeyla and I chatted about how amazing the swim was.
"I still can't believe you pushed me off that cliff!" I half retorted scoldingly, but smiled as I did. Raeyla shrugged, "I figured you might've needed it."
Flashback End
I begun laughing. "What?" Raeyla questioned. "I was just thinking about the time when you PUSHED me off a cliff during our swim with the river dolphins." I answered with a chuckle.
"Oh yes, and it was good eh! You should've seen your face!" I punched her playfully in reply.
