Chapter 10: A Broken Resolve

Tema, Thor and Alise had arrived at the next trial. There were up against a very strong beautiful bird...but to their surprise the bird was gentle. However just as they made friends...the scarlet lightning struck both Tema and the bird. Tema managed to shake off the lightning...but the bird was now angered and attacking the group. With Alise held in it's feet.

The bird was flying towards them with Alise held firmly in its claws. Arion and Thor evaded the attack to which the bird flew around them. Thor looked on "whatever the red spark did..." said Thor "we have no choice now but to fight it however I don't fancy my chances. Before when it was calm and peace loving, it simply deflected us. I mean we won't fully trying but still"

"it's been made more difficult by the fact it has Alise in its claws" said Tema.

Thor then turned to Tema "well before we get our hopes up" said Thor "can you scan him. Since you're a human, you should have that skill. That way we can see what we're actually up against"

"Give me some credit" said Tema "give me a minute" Tema made a white transparent screen appear which zoomed in on the bird "alright...scanning and" Tema's face turn a dull white "hmm...Thor..."

"well...what level is it?"

"erm... eighty-two" Thor was looked just as pale

"Eighty what!?" said Thor "I'm only in my early fifties. Even with direct hits we would barely be hurting it" the bird reared itself and began flying towards Tema "dude move it"

Tema was stood still against the oncoming bird but suddenly someone jumped over him. The figure with a long , if heavy sword, sword slashed at its feet. The bird reacted as it dropped Alise, to which Tema caught her,  before flying away.

Tema looked down "Alise...are you alright?" asked Tema

"yes I'm fine" Tema breathed out in relief and turned to his saviour

"I have to thank you for...hey it's you" the person with long silver hair turned to him

"hey there Tema. Long-time no see" it was Zophia

"Zophia!" she gave a small wave

Tema put Alise down "Alise you go take cover" she nodded and ran off the battlefield "not that I'm not grateful but what are you doing here Zophia?" asked Tema

"finding you" answered Zophia "I was tracking you here but when I felt the malice in the air I knew something was wrong. I turned up just in time"

"Thanks for helping me" said Alise "but the bird has being hit by the scarlet lightning"

"I thought as much"

Just then Thor went over to them "Tema" said Thor "aren't you going to introduce me to your...good looking friend?"

"Thor...is this really the time or place to be hitting on a lady" said Tema groaning "We kind of...I don't know have a possessed giant bird. You can save getting slapped after this is over. That is...if we can beat it. Zophia please excuse my...friend"

"no it's okay. I've dealt with his type before...I just nicely refuse" said Zophia to which Thor reacted as if struck in the gut  "Now listen to me for a moment"

Zophia told him some fairly unsettling news "What...are you saying we have to beat this thing?" said Francis "I suppose that makes sense. This is the boss monster, so since we can't befriend it...we have to beat it" Francis voice trailed off
