I can hear the clicking of cell phones' keyboards in the room. No one is talking just focusing on the screen in their hands. I fix my long black skirt and check the time on my watch. I've been sitting on my behind for 30 minutes now.
"Alright, Mr. Newman is officially done for the day, you all can go home," the same blonde secretary that welcomed me before is now kicking all of us out. Did someone get the assistant position already?
People grunt and walk away. I'm left with anger. I can't leave without my interview!
"Miss, you need to leave," the secretary says.
I sigh and stand. I fix my white jacket. "No. I was promised an interview miss. I won't go."
Her green eyes are confused. "No one promised you anything. Mr. Newman will schedule other interviews later this week."
Oh. "Still, can you tell-"
"Cheryl! I've been calling your ass for minutes now!" I jump as that deep voice invades my ears.
"Sorry, sorry, sir, I didn't have my headset on-"
Oh man, this is Mr. Newman? I step to the side and he turns to me. "I said no more interviews," he says with so much seriousness. He turns to the secretary, "You will be fired if you don't respond next time in 10 seconds, understand?"
She nods. "Yes sir." She quickly goes back inside leaving me in the hall with this man. Mr. Newman stares at me.
"What do you want?" he asks. "You are wasting my employee's time and mine. Talk now."
His tall figure becomes stiff.
"I-I was promised an interview at 9 am. I sat on that chair for 30 minutes and then suddenly I am being kicked out," I answer. My voice is breaking but I managed.
Mr. Newman steps closer and I can see his eyebrows furrow. "What makes you speical?"
"What?"
"Don't waste my time kid. Leave." he walks back inside.
Wow. He is so rude. I look to the ceiling. "No way would I wanted to have him as a boss. He is such a jerk. But God, can you give me an interview soon?"
"God isn't on the next floor,"
I jump and turn around. A random man is standing there in a gray suit. "Huh?" I ask.
He smirks. "Who are you? Are you Luke's new assistant?"
Who is this guy? Is that Mr. Newman's first name?
"I'm Rosalie Dixon," I say.
This man circles around me and hums. "You're not the assistant I thought he will get. Luke is picky."
I roll my eyes. "Yeah I can tell."
"Okay. Well do you know if he's busy? Or do I need to ask Cheryl for that?"
"Oh, I'm not-" wait. No. I need this job. I need to prove to this Newman I'm capable of working. "No what Ms. Dixon?" he asks.
I smile and fix my eyeglasses. "Let me double check, do you mind waiting here?"
"I guess not." I quickly walk into the big doors.
"Hey, I told you to leave missy," Cheryl exclaims. I stop her. "I need this job okay? I have references of my college professors and my ex-manager that I worked for 3 years. I have a year looking for an oppur-"
"What's your name?" I hear Mr. Newman behind me. As I turn around, I see his co-worker smirking down at me.
"Her name is Rosalie Dixon. She told me she's your assistant now,"
"You are not employed yet you are lying?" Mr. Newman asks me.
I sigh. "I need this job. I'm desperate okay? Please, interview me and decide if I'm good enough."
"Give her a chance man,"
"Shut up Mr. Grayson," Mr. Newman says.
Mr. Grayson combs his brown hair back. "Call me when you're done."
"Come in," Mr. Newman points to the open door to his office.
I nod and go in. I see the city painted in glass. This office has an amazing view.
"Sit," darn, I feel like a dog now.
"I rather stand."
He sits in his desk and stares at me. "Really?"
I fix my jacket and sit. "So,"
"Ms. Dixon, what's your age?"
"27,"
"Your degree is on?"
"Communication,"
"Masters?"
"Yes"
"Do you know what my company does?"
"Your company?"
The job description didn't say about working for the CEO!
"What qualifies you in working for a publishing company? Scratch that, one of the best publishing company in the Unites States?"
"Well I think-"
"You think? No, you must know Ms. Dixon,"
"Wait you are not lett-"
"Your weakness?"
"Sir please-"
"What experience do you have to accomplish the role of my assistant?"
Shut up! You're not letting me talk!
"See, you don't just look incapable of thinking, you act like it,"
"I'm not stupid," I say.
"Alright, but you're not fit for the job. Sorry, apply again when you are ready miss."
I stare at his eyes. He is so cold. He quickly looks away. "Leave."
I stand. "You didn't let me talk."
He stands too. "Yes I did. You're slow. Keep up. In this company we don't hire slow workers. We need speed, efficency, and capability to accomplish our goals."
"But-"
"Leave before you embarrassed yourself any further," he says with no emotion.
I roll my eyes and leave the office.

"He was a total jerk!!!" I yell. I serve the chicken into the plate. "I really made myself look like a fool. I just need a job Louie!" I place the plate down on the floor and Louie comes down from the table meowing. He begins to eat.
I sigh. I really need friends. I drop to the couch and watch my soap opera.
My cellphone suddenly rings. It is my brother Charlie. "Hey! I'm in town. We need to go out!"
I chuckle. "Hey bro, how are you?"
"Good. Great! I want to see you little sister," his voice goes up a pitch when he's excited.
"Why are you here anyways?" I ask.
"My new boyfriend lives here,"
"Oh wow, another one?" I chuckle.
"Shut up, so can we meet somewhere?"
"Sure. There's a cute coffee place around the corner," I say.
"Okay. I'll be there in 10 minutes," he hangs up.
...
I tell Charlie about what happened in the morning.
"Oh sister, why don't you come back with mom?" he asks.
I take a sip of coffee. "You know how it is with mom."
He frowns, "I know, but she won't say no."
I shake my head no. "Its fine. I have another interview at a restaurant tomorrow."
"No! You wont even have enough for the rent! Let me help you. My boyfriend has a friend who works at a bar. You might be a manager or something better than a cashier," he smiles.
"But-"
"Shut up. Now drink up so we can go shopping for tonight."
"For what?"
"To party."
