Charlie pulls me into the bar. I hear pop music lightly in the background of chatter and glass clicking. It is a full house tonight.
"Hey! There's my number one!" Charlie's boyfriend yells from across the table. We go around and finally sit.
"This is my sister Rosalie. Rosalie this is Dan," Charlie smiles at his new boy.
Dan is a tall, muscular chocolate man. He is cute. "Finally nice to meet you. Charlie talked a lot about you on our last date," Dan says.
"Me too," I say.
I fix my eyeglasses and look around. People are not my thing. I will never come here alone. Dan orders a round of drinks. I have no idea what mine is but it is blue and sweet.
"I'm hungry!" I yell as the music gets louder.
Charlie rolls his eyes, "She is a fatty!"
Dan smiles and orders appetizers. As we wait, we try to talk about Dan and his job. I can barely hear over the loudness now.
The lights are dimmed low with colorful tech lights are on.
....
I'm waiting outside for Charlie. He is probably kissing Dan goodbye for the past 15 minutes....
The entrance door is smashed open. I jump to the side as I see one of the guards push out a man unto the sidewalk.
"Back off bro! Don't come back," he guard says before going in again.
The man stands and wobbles around. He is clearly drunk. "Fuck you!" he yells at me and points.
Whoa. No way. It's Mr. Newman!
"I need a taxi," he mumbles.
I laugh. This exact man is the one who told me I'm not professional and smart? Ha!
Charlie comes out and sees me laughing. "What's funny?"
I point to Mr. Newman walking to the parking lot. "That is so sad!"
"Do you know him? I saw him fighting with one of the guards," Charlie asks.
I nod. "He's the jerk who interviewed me."
Our attention is caught by the sound of screeching tires and I see Mr. Newman on the floor. A car speeds away, oh gosh, he got hit!
I run towards him and get on my knees. I check his pulse and he is still alive.
"Call 911!" I yell. Charlie gets to it and some people surround us.
Mr. Newman opens his eyes and grunts. "Shit. I got hit!"
I nod and clean his forehead with a Kleenex from my purse. He is bleeding. "Don't move Mr. Newman, an ambulance is coming."
He tries to move but stops probably because of the pain. "How do-do you k," he has the hiccups, "know me?" his eyes look at me. Before I can answer, I hear sirens blocks away.
I don't answer and stand to wait for the paramedics. Soon they are carrying Mr. Newman inside the big red vehicle. One of them asks me if I am his girlfriend.
"No!" I yell. Charlie laughs.
"But do you know him? Any allergies?" he asks me.
I say no. "I don't."
He nods and goes away. The ambulance leaves with the sirens on.
"Let's go home," Charlie takes my hand.
"That was crazy!" I say. "I hope he is okay though."
"He will be little sister."

A Week Later

I am finally working at Dan friend's bar. I'm a hostess for now, but if I keep up, I may be an assistant manager!
I fix my glasses and look at my pony tail on my reflection. My uniform is a white button down shirt with long black pants and flat shoes.
I get out of the restroom and run to the front of the bar.
I start my shift. It is not that full, but enough work to be done.
"Rose!" Dez comes by. He is the manager. "An important customer will be coming soon. Direct him to the VIP room okay? His name is going to appear in the star list okay?"
I nod. "Yes sir. I think I can do this."
"I know," Dez smiles. "It just this customer can be picky and you're new."
I smile back. "I can handle it."
I turn around and see him again. Dez quickly gets to work. "Hello Mr. Newman! I'm glad you're back to dine with us."
Mr. Newman doesn't acknowledge me. "You have my room?"
Dez nods. "Of course. Rose direct our customer to his room."
I quickly nod and lead the way. I hear high heels clicking as we walk. I turn my head a bit and see a beautiful red hair woman walking next to Mr. Newman.
We finally arrive to the VIP room and I ask if they want any drinks.
They sit on the comfy couch.
"This is so nice!" the red head has a jersey accent. "Wow."
"A bottle of red wine for now, we would like to dine," Mr. Newman says.
I nod. "Okay. Enjoy your stay Mr. New-"
"Do I know you?" he asks me.
Yep. He is a jerk. I say no and walk away.
I let one of the waiters know about Mr. Newman orders. I walk back to the front. I do my job.
"Hi! Thanks for-" oh gosh it is Mr. Grayson.
He smiles wide. "Oh hello you. I guess Luke didn't like you huh?"
My eyes are wide open. Why is he here too?!
"Are you going to direct me to the room?" he asks.
"I-I what are you doing here?"
A millisecond passes as I realize what a dumb question I asked him.
Mr. Grayson smirks, "I'm with Mr. Newman. Are you going to direct me to the VIP section?"
I sigh and shake my head. "Yeah, of course, sorry for my question." I start to walk to the VIP room.
"You know, he still hasn't found an assistant. Are you really interested in the job?" Mr. Grayson asks. I stop walking and turn around. Oh man, too close! I almost bump into him.
"Tell me Rosalie," he says.
I sigh and put a strand of hair behind my ear. "Mr. Grayson, I don't think this is an appropriate time. Mr. Newman is in there with a young woman," I say. I open the door and he gets in. I ask what the wants to drink. "Whiskey," he answers. I nod and leave.
....
Luke Point of View
....
The hostess leaves again but this time I notice she is annoyed.
"Hello Mr. Grayson, how are you doing?" Jessie asks.
I ignore their conversation. Why is the hostess look so familiar?
Nathan punches my arm. "Hey Luke, what's wrong?" he sits next to me.
"Nothing," I say.
"You have a wonderful date but you look miserable as always," he says.
"I can make you feel better baby," Jessie smiles and kisses me. I pull away, "let's just eat."
Drinks and food come along during an hour. Jessie is doing much of the talking. My brain is becoming buzzed with alcohol. It feels nice. It blocks out everything.
Even if I don't want to leave, Jessie and Nathan want to.
We walk out into the front to pay.
"I will pay," I say. Nathan nods and walks Jessie out of the place.
"I'm ready," I say to the hostess.
"Okay, here you go sir," she gives me the bill.
I put my credit card in and give it back to her. I look at her as she works. I still can't figure out where I have seen her before.
"Thank you. Come again Mr. Newman," she forces a smile.
"You don't have to like me or force a smile,"I say.
She furrows her eyebrows. "I'm just saying thank you."
I get my card. "You are not genuine."
"Well sorry."
And that's where I realize where I know her. She is the girl who demanded an interview with me.
I look at her eyes. She seems intimidated by me. "Be smart and real young lady. You will get a better tip next time."
"You are really something new Mr. Newman," she says.
"Thank you."
"Is that genuine enough?"
"Yes."
"Goodbye sir."
"See you later."
