Chapter 22
Later...
Riker POV
I woke up, still cuddled into Dakota. There were blankets on me now instead of sheets, and her family was sitting in the room now too. I saw Dakota on her phone.
"Dakota?"
She looked down at me.
"Hey, you're awake."
"Yeah, um... I'm really hungry..."
"Mom got you a sandwich from Subway."
She helped me sit up a little bit, and then she gave me the sandwich. I ate it quickly because I really haven't eaten like anything in the last few days.
"Rik, visiting hours are almost over, so they're going to go home, but they said they'd let me stay with you. I mean... If you want me to stay."
"Please stay," I whispered.
She started brushing my bangs out of my face.
"Ok, I will."
Her family left, and then we were alone.
"Dakota?"
"What?"
"Can you get my nurse?"
"Yeah, why?"
"I have to go to the bathroom, and my back is really starting to hurt again. And maybe while she's helping me, you can get me something to drink...?"
"Yeah, sure. What do you want?"
"Gatorade."
"Ok."
Dakota POV
I got Riker's nurse, and then I went to go find a vending machine for Riker. I finally found one after wandering through the halls for a bit. I got him a blue gatorade, and then went back up to his room. His nurse was putting stuff in his IV.
I sat down next to him.
"You good?" I asked.
"Yeah..."
I handed him the gatorade, and he drank some of it. He put the bottle on the table next to his bed, and then he cuddled into my side.
"You ready for bed?" I asked.
"Mhmmm..."
"Alright. I'll shut off the lights."
I got up and turned the lights off. And then I got back into bed with Riker. He cuddled into my side again, and we fell asleep together.
Morning...
Riker POV
"Rik, wake up."
"Mmmm..."
"Riker, come on. They need to do a blood test on you."
