Chapter 11

Later...

Riker POV

We'd decided we weren't telling anyone we were dating. We were keeping it a secret. I wasn't exactly sure why, but it was Dakota's decision.

I was about to go to sleep when I heard the loft door slide open.

"Riker, you awake?" Dakota whispered.

"Yeah, why?" I asked, rubbing my eyes a little.

"I want to take you somewhere."

"Now?"

"Yeah. Come on."

I followed her out her window.

"Dakota, I don't have shoes."

"We're just walking on grass. You'll be fine."

"What if I step in like horse poop or something?"

"You won't. We're not going near the horses."

I can barely see. It's too dark. And I don't like the dark.

"Are you sure this is safe?"

"Riker, stop being so paranoid."

She took my hand in hers, and intertwined our fingers tightly. We walked beside each other in a comfortable silence. And then we came to the woods.

"D-Dakota, w-wait!"

"What?"

"T-those are t-the w-woods. I-I c-can't-"

"Riker, you're with me. Nothing will happen to you, I promise."

I whimpered a little bit. She pulled me into the woods. I heard twigs snapping all around us. I was scared to death we were going to get eaten by something.

"D-Dakota," I whined.

"Shhh. We're fine."

We finally got to the grassy area she took me to before.

"Why are we here?"

"There's a great view of the moon and the stars."

"Oh..."

It didn't feel so scary anymore. It felt sort of calm and peaceful here. I could hear crickets, and everything just sort of seemed right.

Dakota pulled me over to a spot, and then we laid down. Dakota had her head on my chest, and I had my arm around her.

"This is really nice," I said, quietly.

"Are you still scared?"

"No... I sort of like it here..."

"Good. I like it here too."

"I'm really tired though..."

"Yeah. So am I."

I closed my eyes. Dakota will wake me up if I fall asleep...

Morning...

Riker POV

"Riker, get up! Come on!"

I opened my eyes. Dakota was sitting up next to me.

"Huh?"

"We fell asleep! I have no idea what time it is, but the sun is directly over us, and it's probably like noon!"

I sat up, rubbing my eyes.

"Come on! We're going to be in so much trouble! Wait! Hold on! We should think of a reason why we were out here!"

"Um... Like what?" I asked, yawning.
