Chapter 10

Dakota POV

I'm kissing Riker, oh my god!

I pulled away quickly, and jumped up.

"I'm sorry! I don't know why I did that!" I shouted, starting to run.

"Dakota wait!"

I didn't wait. I kept running through the woods until I was into the fields again. I ran all the way home. I jumped through my window, and crawled up to my bed.

Why did I just do that?

I started crying. I don't even know why I'm crying. I don't even know what to think.

Riker POV

I was totally lost. I don't know where to go. I'd tried to follow Dakota, but she was too fast for me.

After wandering around for a while, I finally found the fields again, and I walked back to Dakota's house. I found Dakota in the kitchen.

"Hey, can we talk about-"

"No! We have chores to do. Come on."

I followed her back outside.

"Dakota-"

"Shut up, Riker!"

I got sort of scared, and walked further behind her. She brought me to the cow barn.

"We're doing hay bales. Do it on your own," Dakota said, picking up a hay bale.

I sighed. My back is finally all better. I don't want to get hurt again. And why is she being like this!? It's not like I kissed her. She kissed me.

I wrapped my arms around a hay bale. But I just couldn't lift it. I felt pain in my back, and I wasn't about to break my spine, trying to move hay bales.

Dakota walked over.

"Why aren't you helping?"

"I can't do it. It's going to hurt my back again."

"Go tell my mom, then."

I sighed.

"Ok..."

I walked all the way back to the house. I found her mom in the kitchen.

"Hey... Um... Mrs.S?"

"What's up, Riker?"

"Um... Well... I'm supposed to be moving hay bales. But I can't lift them, and Dakota said to tell you...?"

"Why can't you lift them?"

"I'm not strong enough. I tried, but it felt like it was going to hurt my back again."

"Alright... Well just go do something else then."

"Ok..."

I walked all the way back to Dakota.

"Why are you back?" Dakota asked, annoyed.

"I'm supposed to help with something else. And you always tell me what to do... So I figured I'd ask you."

"I don't care, Riker. You've been here for a few days. You go decide."

"Ok... But couldn't I just help you-"

"Just go away, Riker!"

"But what did I do!?"

"Just get out!"

"I don't understand!"

She grabbed my wrist and started dragging me.

"Ow!" I whimpered.
