Chapter 7

Zac shoved his cell phone in his pocket and stare blankly on the door where the party is. He just mentally prayed that Char will not know about Jared’s arrival and his employment on the university.

“Zac, where is Jared?” Zac turned as he hear the snap of the nervous voice of Erin. He noted that she look breath taking in her red dress and that doctor’s white coat. What is he thinking?

“Ah! Hey! He is inside.” Zac pointed towards the door where cheers are popping out loudly.

“Why you did not tell me all this time that he is coming home? You know that Erin will take her resignation as soon as she hear about that, are you out of your mind? What will happen to our little Andy!” Erin furiously tell Zac.

“hey, I just got that all of the sudden right. Jared asked me to have a part time at Thompson’s University because he wants to stay away from the problems at the hospital. He just wanted to be a simple doctor of the heart! Come on, Erin, now is not the right time to fight over this matter, we need a solution!”

“Hear this out Zac, you even hired Jared at the University?” Erin asked.

“what shall I say to him? ‘Jared, you can’t teach at the University because the woman you have impregnated 5 years ago is somehow teaching at the University and she is good at her status?’ is that what you want me to do?” Zac asked.

Zac have thought about the resignation of Char on the University will be a massive blow to the institution since she was considered as the best since she started teaching at the University. If ever Char will be knowing that Jared will take over the management of the hospital, which is she will know right away though, she will be sending her resignation first thing in the morning and will start taking out her things. That may happen the same for the hospital. Char can’t leave the hospital since many of the patients need Pediatric attention.

“mind introducing me with this fine lady, who is very familiar Zac?” a voice came from the silence spoke.

Erin and Zac both turned their head towards the voice. And Jared smilingly approached.

“Zachary!” Jared approached Zac while snapping a finger on his face. “Who is she, she’s familiar! Forgive me my lady, I can’t dig up the name of yours.” He said taking the hand of Erin for a soft shake. “why so cold, ma’am?” Jared teasing Erin.

His playboy days never been out. Erin thought.

Zac pulled the hands of Erin who is currently shaking with Jared. “E-erin—“ he said.

“and why are you talking in this not well- lighted station? Care to explain Zac? Are you keeping something away from your best friend? Jared said without taking his eyes off Erin as if trying to figure out the name of the familiar lady.

“E-erin is m-my m-my…g-girlfirend. Yeah, right, my girlfriend.” Zac told Jared nervously. With that he received a deathly glare from Erin.

“Ow I also see that you are also from here, Dr?”

“Lawson. Erin Lawson.” Erin introduced herself.

“Yes, I remember now, I never thought that Zac will say out his feelings. Sorry but he never mentioned about him having a girl.” Jared smile gregariously. “I remember your friend, Chartreuse, where is she now?

His feelings? Erin thought. What was that? They both flinched at the question. “She works here as well and at the University.”

Jared don’t know what to say from the news he have heard, he will be sharing both work with Chartreuse who happens to be her reason for coming home. After the night at the party, he never had a chance to see Char. What he is sure of is that, he enjoyed talking to Chartreuse that night after she passed out and started looking for chocolate drink again when she woke up.

It is as if a mini cinema is playing on Jared’s mind. He was really drunk that night but he was very sure that he tried to tuck the drunk Chartreuse in bed. He also remembered pushing some hair that managed to escape her bun. He tried to control himself that night but he simply can’t and he run his lips on her earlobe that creates a soft moan from Chartreuse. Hearing the lady lying beside him moan so soft, he right away felt his arousal and drive his hormones badly.

Yes, that was it. Was he really with Britney that night as with Zac’s statement? If so, he can be sure of that Britney has gone with lots of men to bed and that won’t explain the blood stain on the sheets. Was that Chartreuse? And that’s why she ran off and flinched whenever she saw him walking in the corridors of the school? And from what he heard from his parents when he was away, was she the person under the scholarship grant who left the school for 7 months?

Jared had a hard time weaving everything. The statement of Zachary and Erin the morning after the party is actually contrary to what he knew and what he felt during the night. Why is he so careless not remembering what happened after he tucked Char to bed?

“I apologize Dr. Colton, I am expecting to see you tomorrow morning, I have to run some errand tonight, I hope y-you don’t mind if I will be going now, nice meeting you by the way.” Erin shook Jared hand. Jared smiled as a response to the lady’s gesture.

“I-I will see you then, oh! On what department Dr. Lawson?” Jared asked.

“Dentistry” Zac supplemented before Erin.

“and Dr. Lawson, it’s Jared. Let’s shake the formalities we know each other during college, I am still trusting that we are friends.” He called before Erin vanished from the dim light.

“of course, Dr. Co— Jared! And yes we are! I’ll see you then!” she waved her hand and took a glance at Zac who mouthed, I’ll call you later.

“I see still can’t move on with the college crush?” Jared teased Zac.

Zac just rolled his eyes and tousled Jared’s hair. “let’s go out for a drink, you have missed A LOT of things when you were in Greece!”

Later that evening…

Doctors from all department and specialization, there is an urgency to report at the board meeting for the new President of Colton’s. Be with your reports at 9 o’clock at Grime’s hall.

“First day meeting and pretending to be someone important huh, new president?” Chartreuse just mentally slapped her face after reading the message. She thought of picking Andy and driving him to McDonald’s for breakfast. She tried calling Erin but the long and consistent ringing tells her that she is already asleep. She mentally reminded herself to wake up Erin early tomorrow.
