This is it, guys. Last chapter.
One year later.
Sam POV
"Sammy!" Mom called up the stairs. "Hurry up!"
I smiled and rolled my eyes, picking up my phone and sending a text to her.
S: chill, mom
"No, I won't chill! You're going to be late! Don't make me send Dean up there to drag your ass down here!"
I smirked slightly and pulled the black tie over my head. After tying it, I looked at myself in the mirror. I grabbed the suit jacket from the back of my desk chair and straightened the tie. I brushed my hair out of my face and thought about this past year.
Senior year was stressful as it could be. College applications, career planning, and lots of work. I had gotten a letter the day before saying that I was accepted into Stanford. Gabriel had gotten the same letter.
I grabbed my phone and walked down the stairs. Mom was typing fast on her laptop. She looked up when I came in. She smiled.
"Sammy..." She whispered, her eyes slightly watery. I rolled my eyes, but allowed myself to be pulled into a hug.
It's not a big deal, I signed after she pulled back. She shook her head.
"Yes, it is, Sammy! It's your senior prom. You and Gabriel ditched junior prom last year to binge watch anime on Netflix. I'm just so proud of you. You're going to Stanford, you have friends, and a boyfriend. I'm really proud of you."
"Mom, you're rambling." Dean walked into the room and ruffled my hair. I pushed his arm off and stuck my tongue out at him. He tossed an arm around my shoulder. "He's a good kid." I rolled my eyes and pushed his arm off again.
The front door opened and Gabriel called, "I'm home!"
Dean rolled his eyes. "You don't live here!"
Gabriel walked in with Cas behind him. "I feel so attacked." Gabriel said. "I brought your boyfriend, didn't I?" Cas smiled at me and walked over to Dean, intertwining their fingers.
Gabriel grinned up at me. I looked at what he was wearing and laughed. He had a short sleeved white button up shirt, a rainbow bow tie, black skinny jeans, and Dr. Martens. He reached up and kissed my cheek.
"Jess and Amelia are gonna meet us outside of the gym." Gabriel said. I nodded absentmindedly and kissed him. He looked at my outfit and said, "Wow, so fancy." I grinned, pulled off the jacket, and rolled up my sleeves. He laughed. "Better."
Since we weren't very far away from the school, Gabriel and I just walked there. We met Amelia and Jessica and walked into the gym. It was already packed with people and playing some obnoxious Top 40's song.
After only half an hour, the walls started to close in. I knew that no matter how much better I had gotten over the past year, I couldn't be in a small, dark, crowded room for very long. I slipped away from our small group and walked out of the gym.
Once I was outside, I sank down against the wall and closed my eyes.
I was six again. Mom was always at work. Whenever Dad didn't want to deal with me while Dean was at school, he shut me in the hall closet. On some days, he left me there for hours. I felt warm tears running down my face and sat in fear, in the dark, waiting.
"Sam?"
I opened my eyes and saw Gabriel standing over me. "I turned around and you weren't there. What happened?" I shook my head and signed, Too many people.
Gabriel sat down next to me and grabbed my hand. He leaned down and kissed my knuckles lightly, causing me to blush. After a few minutes, a calmer song came on. We could hear it through the walls. He smiled over at me and said, "Looks like the hipsters have control of the music."
Gabriel stood up, and for one terrifying moment I thought he was going to leave, but he held out a hand to me. I took it, and he pulled me up. Gabriel stepped into my space and placed one hand on my shoulder, keeping one of his hands in mine. I put one hand on his shoulder.
"Would you laugh at me if I told you that my mom made me take ballroom dancing classes when I was little?" Gabriel asked, grinning. I raised my eyebrow at him. "Just trying to make you laugh."
I smiled.
We barely moved at all while we were dancing. I kept my eyes closed and my forehead pressed against his. I guessed that what he said about ballroom dancing lessons was true, since he had perfect form.
After the song ended, we sat back down against the wall. Gabriel laid his head on my shoulder as another old song started up.
Why do you build me up,
Buttercup baby
Just to let me down?
And mess me around
"I'm really glad they chose me to be your translator, Sam." Gabriel mumbled. My heart did backflips as I grabbed his hand. I didn't want to imagine a world where Gabriel wasn't my translator, best friend, and boyfriend.
I pulled my hand away and signed before I even knew what I was doing.
I love you.
Gabriel looked up at me as fear flooded into my head. What if he didn't feel the same way?
All of my doubts were blown away as he reached up to kiss me. "I love you, too."
Baby, baby, try to find
A little time
And I'll make you mine
I'll be home
I'll be beside the phone waiting for you
"Do you want to get out of here? I have two cans of pringles and season three of The Walking Dead at home." I grinned and nodded. We stood up and grabbed hands. Gabriel pressed a quick kiss to my lips.
I need you
More than anyone, baby
You know that I have from the start
So build me up, buttercup
Don't break my heart.
